Finally this cult B'way Musical is on CD for all to enjoy!,

I strongly urge all who fondly remembered "Starmites" during its ill-fated yet Tony- nominated Broadway run to buy this CD. With a charming & witty score by Barry Keating, "Starmites" tells the lively story of a girl who loves science-fiction comic books and gets swept away into "Innerspace", where she meets all sort of Good guys (the "Starmites") and Bad guys (the wild Diva and her evil Banshees). You get to hear a young Liz Larsen, (most recently in "A New Brain") Gabriel Barre, Victor Trent Cook (currently in "Smokey Joe's Cafe"), Gwen Stewart (currently in "Rent"), Mary Kate Law (currently in "The Sound of Music") and many other talented performers. Good triumphs over evil with brilliant vocal arrangements. A must for any musical theater buff.

Science Fiction meets Off-Broadway!,

Science Fiction meets Off-Broadway in a fantastic musical that will keep every theater-goer entertained. Every song will stick with you, and some may even inspire you. Starmites is unique because it's about a topic that not many musicals touch upon- outerspace (or Innerspace, as the case may be). Gwen Stewart is amazing as the Diva. Standout songs include "Reach Right Down", "Superhero Girl", "Diva!", "Milady", "It Wasn't A Dream", and "Immolation". See, there's just so much great music! Starmites is truly a gem, and Amazon.com is the only place I've seen it being sold. Get this CD, and you'll be glad you did. It's a unique story and a musical that you can fall in love with.

What A Joy!,

This is truly a cute show! The lyrics and songs maybe a bit simple at times, but the story is about a little girl and her comic book, so it fits very nicely. I will have to say that Barry Keating might be the next Menken/Ashmen! It's hard to summarize the story per just the recording, but the music is a mix between "Little Shop Of Horrors" and "Starlight Express". For people who buy cast recordings on a whim, this is one you will want to pick up!

It's actually here - STARMITES!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Starmites (1998 Original Cast Members) (Audio CD)
Wow...I never expected to actually find a recording of Starmites. My high school is putting it on...we have a rather large cast (23) so we have a lot of made-up Banshees and Starmites...I'm a Banshee...Shotzi's partner in crime, Schrilla. The show is really cornball, but a lot of fun. The CD captures the fun of it all, but leaves a bunch of great stuff out too, like the "Connuptial Dance of Spousal Arousal," which has got to be the funniest number ever. Well, the show must go on, and so must I.

This cd contains some of my favoirte songs from one of the greatest musicals to ever grace the braodway (and St. Jude's Players) stage. The songs are simply wonderful and can be enjoyed by listeners of all ages. I highly recomend this to anyone who's willing to give something new a try. (Also note, this is one of the few places that you can get the cd in America.)

I played Dazzle Razzledorf in a regional production of "Starmites" about five years ago, and it had one of the most challenging -- and most rewarding -- musical scores I've ever sung (right behind "Forever Plaid"). While the story is pretty silly, the music is simply awesome. And our entire cast was thrilled to learn that there is now a CD we can listen to. Many of us have bought it, and we've all enjoyed hearing these wonderful songs again after so many years -- especially "Afraid of the Dark" and "Reach Right Down." The arrangements on this CD are a little too '80s/Michael Jackson/Heart for today's refined fin de siècle tastes, but the songs are incredible, and the singers have glorious voices.

Finally!! Starmites on CD,

I am glad to finally have a listenable recording of this show. OK not the best score ever written for a Broadway musical, but certainly a lot of fun.Not being able to secure Sharon McNight, the original DIVA, for the recording, the producers have chosen to split her songs between Gwen Stewart and Janet Aldrich (the original Diva understudy), while unusual, I am glad that I get two Diva performances for the price of one. The orchestration is a little thin and sound quality is at times like it was recorded in a tile-lined bathroom, but it adds to the campiness of Starmites. Thank you Bruce Yeko of Original Cast records for rescuing another what could have easily have become one of the lost gems of a theatrical decade.

The Mite-iest Musical,

This is one of my favorite musicals of all time. It was the first Broadway show I fell in love with and I still remember how much fun it was to watch that incredible cast! Liz Larsen, Gabriel Barre, Victor Cook, and Gwen Stewart have all gone on to great Broadway careers, and Sharon McNight gave one of the most incredibly funny and touching performances of any season. The direction was a little trite and hum-drum, but the music was inventive funny and touching. Why so long for the album? It's terrific. I thought I'd miss Sharon McNight--but Gwen Stewart and Janet Aldrich are awesome--and the replacement Space Punks are as good as Brian Lane Green (who was terrific.) Unique, original, and funny--it's a great buy. I'm so glad it's here!
