StarQuest - Lionheart By Kate Douglas
Book 1 in the Star Quest series

Mara Armand, director of a foundation for the protection and study of humans with extrasensory abilities, has made telepathic contact with an alien starship captain orbiting the earth.

After weeks of nightly telepathic visits with Captain Sander, Mara develops an intimate mental relationship with her unseen alien lover. She experiences his need, his passion, and his sensual touch, but it is a bittersweet relationship for the laws of the Explorers forbid them to ever meet.

An accident in space changes everything and Mara and Sander are given the chance they never thought they'd have. Threatened by World Federation troops from without and jealous hatred from within, their survival now depends on the strength of their bond and a ragtag army of young Sensitives willing to risk their lives for an alien starship captain.

StarQuest - Night of the Cat By Kate Douglas
Book 2 in the series Star Quest

Jenna Lang is ready for a change, but traveling to a future earth and landing in the middle of a rebellion between Sensitives and the World Federation was not on her list. A sensual encounter with a ferocious but intriguing Lion of Mirat is something Jenna could never have imagined. Is Garan her ultimate sexual fantasy come true, the one love she has always dreamed of...or is he both?

StarQuest - Pride of Imar By Kate Douglas
Book 3 in the series Star Quest

Sheyna of Pride Imar makes the journey to earth because she knows she can help the rebels. She immediately goes to work with Malachi Franklin, the Rebellion's healer, but their work is interrupted when both of them are captured by the leader of the World Federation.

Sheyna and Malachi discover that a powerful bond exists between them during these trying times. However, once they are freed by Rebellion forces, they must determine whether the bond they feel is one borne of love or necessity.

Starquest:
1. "Lionheart" This was a great intro to the series. The actual development of the relationship was a bit glossed over with the author spending more time on the actual sex (of course) as well as the setting and development of the war. I really liked these two characters and was really happy at this point.
2. "Night of the Cat" After reading this short I was sure I found a great treasure. Every scene with this couple was great, and there were plenty of them. And the intrigue at the end with his father was nice and suspenseful.
3. "Pride of Imar" Now here's where I started to get nauseas. This sick military General abducts the two main characters. He forces his four soldiers to "bring her to pleasure" by any means necessary while she's tied down and her lover is tied to a wall and has to watch. She's part lion and the soldiers are repulsed that they are forced to be intimate with an animal, which in turn kind of grosses us out also, not to mention she's being abused and is not happy, which does not make for good entertainment in my humble opinion. I was really disappointed with this installment.

Starquest 2:
4. "Synergy" In this short both characters are human with physic talent. He is asked to bring over a woman. By seeing an image of her through another's vision he can locate and bring her 100 years into their future. This one was a bit boring without either of the characters being Lions, just plain old boring humans, which I can forgive, but then, at the end she's kidnapped and he can't find her! Hmm...he can zap her into the room through time...but he can't do it again when she's being held a few doors down? I was done at this point. So all in all, this series really had promise, but started to go down hill pretty fast. I never did read the fifth book "Bold Journey."

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Science Fiction Romance, June 29, 2006

This review is from: Starquest (Paperback)
I loved this book, it is not one book but three novellas in one cover. The story was fresh and the three shorts make a fine read. I have never read Kate Douglas before but I surely will look for her books now.

LIONHEART is the story of Mara Armand, a psychic sensitive on earth, who contacts an alien spacefareing sensitive. She falls in love with his mind and knowing she will never be able to meet him she lets him see the intimate parts of herself.

Sandar is a Captain of Mirat. He travels on his Starquest to visit worlds and gain knowledge of the sentient races that populate them. He has touched Mara's mind and found her to be the most fasinating intriguing female he has ever known. His race has some similarities to the Lion, his body is covered by a soft fur and he has a tail. But most of his body looks human.

Just before his ship is to leave Earth, it is hit by a meteor or something, anyway he alone escapes to Earth in a pod. Mara and the members of the Armand Institute save him and try to keep the World Federation from knowing about him. They are very xenophobic.

NIGHT OF THE CAT is about Garan, a lion of Mirat, who is stationed on Earth, and Jenna a woman from the 21st century who somehow winds up in the 22nd century. At first Garan thinks she is a spy for the WF, but soon realizes she is from 100 years in the past.

PRIDE OF IMAR is about Garan's sister Sheyna who comes to Earth to help those harmed by a weapon that destroys minds. Once here she meets the healer, Malachi Franklin and their romance continues the story of the battles with the WF.

I found all three stories good and loved the science/fiction part very much. You will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anthology of first 3 Starquest stories, July 10, 2009

This review is from: Starquest (Paperback)
Nice read. This single author anthology manages to mix together aliens who look like lions [think Vincent in Beauty and Beast for those who remember that far back:], Sensitives [people with psychic talents:], post-holocaust Earth complete with a Rebellion against the World Federation which is trying to wipe out the Sensitives. It has likable characters and an action-oriented plot. H/H's spend a lot of time hitting the sheets...

4.0 out of 5 stars Starquest good read, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Starquest (Paperback)
Originally sold as separate e-books, it is nice to be able to get these books all-inclusive in a two-book set, instead of five books. Sit back and imagine an alien race similar in looks to that of Lion complete with a tail, except they stand on two feet instead of four. This alien race has come to earth at a time when rather than be curios about those from other planets earthlings are terrified. They have a kill first and ask questions later mentality. This future time is where the first book in the Starquest series takes us.

For the most part this is a pretty good series. The author takes us to a place where only the imagination can go. If I had to have a complaint it would be that there was a lot more sex than I would have liked to see and not enough information about where these aliens came from. That is really the beauty of offering a look at an alien race. The author spends a lot of time explaining the aliens' looks and not enough on who they are and what they believe.

One of the things about sci fi books is that anything is possible. Falling in love and finding an alien that looks like a lion and has a tail may seem odd to the reader, but perfectly natural to the characters. That's the best past of the genre. This book reminds me of the old Star Trek and Star Wars series in a way. The creators were forever creating characters that were almost like human but not exactly.

Those who like sci-fi will enjoy this series and getting to meet the lion-like creatures. Book one sets the scene for the books to come, as well as does a nice job on setting up the reasons for the war that ensues. Book two, by far the best out of the three books, develops a nice relationship between the hero and the heroine, and I like getting the chance to go to the alien's home world. Book three isn't my favorite. A little too much abuse of the female heroine for my taste, but a nice ending to the three part series.
