Punches and Nail Sets for machinists, builders and carpenters These punches and nail sets are universally used, but most often by machinists and carpenters. They are well-proportioned for ease of use. The specially selected tool steel is hardened and tempered to the proper hardness. All of them feature nicely knurled finger grips for ease of handling. A special tempering process makes the head less likely to fracture from a hard, off-center blow. Always wear safety glasses when using striking and struck tools. Rugged automatic punches have all-steel handles and parts. These punches have a mechanism that automatically strikes a blow when downward pressure is applied. No hammer is required, making one hand always free to steady the work. The adjustable knurled cap regulates the force of the blow. Should a heavy mark be required, the cap is screwed down. Progressively lighter marks are obtained by turning the cap upward. The tension of the spring, which regulates the blow is constant, so marks made by the point are uniform in depth and size for each setting. The point can be easily removed for regrinding and/or replacement. All sizes are identical in style, differing only in the striking power. The heavy-duty No. 18C model is capable of striking a much heavier blow than the other sizes and has a one-piece point and shank which may also be easily resharpened or replaced.

Starlett automtic center punch is first of all, a very high quality American Made tool. My friend bought one for $12. and i thought it was nice, but then i saw my cousins starrett and i couldn't believe the difference. This is an amazing tool. It makes a small indent on wood, metal, whatever, and as small as it is is is ample to set your tailstock for the laythe (saw is used on tv), a pilot hole for drilling, etc. I highly recommend that you spend the extra money and buy this product. Oh, another point, i was also informed that this tool can also be used to shatter the glass in your car if you are even unfortunate enough to end up under water and have to break the glass. What i have been told. Don't know how true and am not that anxious to find out. enjoy it.

Starrett quality speaks for itself! Very nice center punch and adjustable for hard or softer strikes. Have used for sometime time and no wear on the point. Would definitely recommend.

I am familiar with Starrett products from my extensive experience in aerospace electronics and mechanics and they are the standard of excellence, so when I needed a center punch for work and did a search for center punches, once I saw that Starrett made them, I knew they would fit my needs. They are the best.
