Product Description

The Starrett 565A drive pin punch has a 4" overall length with a 9/16" pin length and 1/16" pin diameter to push pins and rivets into or out of a workpiece. The punch is made from hardened and tempered steel components that provide wear resistance and strength. It has a round shank, which is knurled for grip.

Pin punches are used to insert or knock out rivets and pins in assemblies. They have a metal shank on one end and a metal pin driver on the other, and are typically tapped with a hammer.

The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company, founded in 1880, is headquartered in Athol, MA.

I had a bought several sizes of these punches. When I used the 1/16" after a few taps it shattered in one spot. It was a tiny imperfection in the steel that caused the tempering process to make it brittle there. The other sizes had no such issue. It was the weekend, so I left a message on Starrett's answering machine explaining how it shattered. I sent back the old one for replacement from amazon. I just got a call from Starrett, and man I'm impressed, they are sending me out a new one as an apology. Even though I already have one coming from Amazon, this shows they really want the customer to be happy! They explained it was not usual to have one shatter that way, that under too much stress, it might bend, but not splinter that way. I was shocked that a company cared enough to go the extra mile this way. I will never buy another brand of precision took from any other company. I'll always check to see if Starrett has the tool first!

I thought by the picture there were four different punches. You only get one. But the one you get seems like it's high quality and well made. It feels well balanced. I used it on my Springfield XD9 and have no complaints. I would purchase this brand again if I need a different size.

Starrett has been my family's choice of precision tools for two generations, starting with my father's work as a government contracted machinist and continuing with me in my gunsmithing shop. These punches might seem too expensive compared to the "Harbor Freight standard" chinese-made tools sold here and on sites such as Brownells or MidwayUSA, but you definitely get what you pay for. These punches are easy to grasp, heavy in the hand, very durable for the length and ground precisely so they're absolutely going to fit the size holes they're measured for and drive pins without slipping off. The only reason I'm replacing my 1/16" is because I cut the one in my original set down very short to be used on AR-rifle gas block pins that are being ridiculously stubborn and need persuaded with a very heavy hammer. Highly recommended for anyone who might use a pin punch more than once!

If you're looking for a good quality punch for driving out small diamteter pins, this is the one for you. I've tried several other brands, and they've been prone to breaking, even when tapped easily with a relatively small hammer, so I decided to try this one by Starrett. I've had other Starrett tools in the past, and they've always been well made, and this one is no different. The quality of the steel and the way it's been treated makes for a really durable punch. The sharp knurling on the handle ensures a good grip, and the length makes it easy to remove pins that are relatively long. I liked this one so well I bought the complete Starrett punch set.

as always, beautiful starrett quality, finish, and craftsmanship. If you study the available (competitors) products, you find that this is priced competitively vs a chinese import. I am glad to buy starrett when I can, and know they will always be the best. I fully expect this to outlive me, despite daily use.

I bought this punch for a very specific task which is to punch holes in leather and I needed to have a long and straight pin to be able to use this with a template. The punch is evidently high quality and works very effectively for the type of work I wanted to do.

Starrett is a very old manufacturer, but this is one of the cases where not improving on perfection pays off. I had been buying these punches in bulk through various tool and industrial suppliers. Most no longer are direct accounts, so I no longer have a local source that would not be ordering them retail and then marking them up MSRP+ 30% ( it really is a shame mfr do not support the traditional stocking distribution model, but I got to zag when the world zigs )

This punch is the finest. As a locksmith, I used these regularly for driving pins out of locks, and when they bend from using them other than as indended; I regrind the tips fro digging out pins that do not pass clear through an item.

If I only needed one or two, I would have Snap-On get them for me, but I buy 30 at a time, so really need a wholesale price.

In this case, Amazon came through.
