Product Description

The Starrett 565B drive pin punch has a 4" overall length with an 11/16" pin length and a 3/32" pin diameter to push pins and rivets into or out of a workpiece. The punch is made from hardened and tempered steel components that provide wear resistance and strength. It has a round shank, which is knurled for grip.

Pin punches are used to insert or knock out rivets and pins in assemblies. They have a metal shank on one end and a metal pin driver on the other, and are typically tapped with a hammer.

The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company, founded in 1880, is headquartered in Athol, MA.

This was specifically purchased to use to remove pin holding the blackstrap on my Springfield XDM pistol. This is exactly what Springfield should have included with the pistol. This is the exact size needed and has sufficient length to fit far enough into the pin hole to get the pin out the other side. Shortly after buying the pistol I realized they did not provide the needed tool to remove the optional back straps included in the kit. A quick web search revealed that I was among many who found themselves in need of the tool to do so. I was able to get info on the size needed and then popped over to Amazon and found several options, this seemed the best buy and I am very satisfied. So if you recently purchased a Springfield pistol or plan to then you may as well as order this one now, you will need it.

Starrett punches work great. They are stronger than the majority of other punches and have no problems getting the job done. I recommend starret to anyone needing to knock out pins on any application. Only draw back, and common sense should tell you this, the smaller the size of the punch, the less strength and ridgedness it has. Several hard "whacks" will bend the punch. Go slow and steady and you have no worries.

I'm a gunsmith and have gone through maybe 50 punches in the last 15 years! I only buy Starrett now as at least they last longer than any of the others! All punches will eventually bend or snap but these are THE best. At least that I'm aware of anyway!

Prior to buying the Starrett 3/32" punch pin, I must have gone through easily 3 or 4 similar punches I had picked up from Home Depot and Lowes. Once I decided to try and pick up a more solid tool, I decided to get 2 because I was sure I was gonna break at least one if not both of them hammering away on my most recent projects. And sure enough, in order to punch out the troublesome pins, I found myself having to really hammer down on the Starrett punch, at weird angles, and on such small spaces where the pins were located. While I did manage to break one of the pins, enough of it was still left where I was able to finish my project. Whereas with all the other pins I bought, I couldn't even punch out ONE pin.

Because of the pins I needed to punch out, specifically needing a weaker parallel tip instead of a wider tapered pin, I understood the punches would be more susceptible to breaking sooner or later. But the punch held up better than any of the others I tried. Next time I have need for strong punches, I won't think twice about ordering more Starrett brand punches.

I got this for my Glock - this is the same size as the Glock tool and cost was a bit better. Works perfectly for what I needed- recommend having one in your kit!

Its a great punch, but you only get 1 despite the photo showing 4 and it being described as Drive Pin Punches.

Pretty solid punch. I did eventually manage to break it, but only after whacking on it with a three pound sledge a few dozen times in an attempt to free a bushing (It's complicated but had to be done). It lasted dozens more blows than any of the punches I found at the hardware store, and for anyone who plans on using it as intended, I think it'll last multiple lifetimes. It feels really solid, and it was straight as an arrow. Maybe the fact that I managed to break mine isn't of much comfort, but believe me, as the one who bought and broke it, I am still very pleased with its performance. This is the punch for you. Buy it; you won't regret it!
