This is a high-quality ruler with extreme attention to detail. The markings are precisely engraved, the finish is a non-glare satin, and the ends are ground precisely to the scale. Both scales on both sides are perfectly aligned to the end of the ruler.

The ruler has 32nd and 64ths on one side and 10ths and 100ths on the other. As a machinist it is useful to have both. This ruler is used for centering cutters on the lath and for rough checks to be sure I am not messing up. It was in great shape when it got to me :D I love it.

It is NOT your fault: years ago I bought several Starrett 6" rules and one by one they've 'disappeared' in the vicinity of friends, -in-laws and the like. These are a disappointment
because they're thinner and less wide than my originals. THey ARE just as clearly visible and well-made as my originals - - - but they are lesser. (and just to prove it - Starrett still makes such rules just as long and wide - but thinner!)

Clearly up to Starrett's known quality. Sharply engraved markings make this rule easy to read in all four scales on two sides. I only wish it had a sliding T-clip so I could do comparative depth/width measurements, and a little soft plastic cover for the pocket-end to keep the edges from cutting pockets. Don't bother with the pocket clip sold by Starrett...it's not worth the money.

Starrett has long been known as a quality tool co., but when it comes to the 6" scale the 303R with .020/.100 incraments is the only scale to own. They all will last you a lifetime, but the 303R by Starrett is the easiest to read IMHO. When it comes to micrometers I choose Mitutoyo Digit, dial indicators Interapid, 6" scales Starrett 303R!

This is the fourth Starrett scale I've purchased. The finish is durable and easy to read. This scale is a convenient length and is semi-flexible to follow most contours. In particular, it is graduated in 10ths and 100ths which is ideal for the type of work I do.
Plus it is just a pleasure to own a quality tool.

We had purchased a Mitutoyo 182-214 just like this except it is black with white lines and numbers.
The Starrett being silver with black lines and numbers is easier to read.
Other than that they are both the same.
I think they are both made out of stainless steel.

i have zero complaints with this rule. i love how mark their rules, they use different line heights for the eighth and quarter inch divisions making things a little quicker
