5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but the quality shows, July 31, 2007

Like all Starrett tools and measuring devices this is a quality product in all respects. Like the saying goes you get what you pay for and this screwdriver set proves the point. I have a couple of cheap sets and the blades are broken or chipped. I don't believe this will happen to my Starrett blades. It is a shame with a quality product like this they package it in a cheaply made flimsy plastic case.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Usual, Starrett Tools Are Satisfying, September 2, 2011

I've never regretted buying Starrett hand tools and these tiny screwdrivers are no exception. I bought them because I needed to take my watch apart and wanted to make sure that when I opened up the watch, I could handle any screw that stood in my way. So, I ponied up the bucks for these screwdrivers and am glad I did.

My next order will be for a couple spare blades for the smallest screwdrivers, .025 IN. and .040 IN. Maybe even for the .055 IN., though that one seems big enough that I don't worry too much about bunging it up.

These screwdrivers are so expensive, that no one could be begrudged for buying a lower-cost, well-reviewed alternative. However, when confronted with screwdrivers sets by the likes of Bergeon, Starrett can make you feel frugal.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TOOLS GOT MINE ON TIME & CAN GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO THOSE THAT DID NOT, August 25, 2010
This review is from: Starrett S555Z-7 Jeweler's Screwdriver Set with Case, 7-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just ordered and received a set of Starrett screw-drivers, in seven days, and inside the same, cheap, red plastic box. The problem two others here had was not with the tools, it is the thief that stole the tools out of the box somewhere between the Starrett factory, the retailer, Micro-Tools, and their places and MIcro-Tools not checking the box before shipment. My bet is on an employee at Micro-Topols. I am still using a two chest box of mostly Starrett machinist tools I bought from the widow of a deceased machinist in 76, and they are from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. About that time, Starrett and many other manufactures of machinist/jeweler grade tools started replacing the hard wood cases with cheap plastic to better compete with Japanese companies. The tool quality was the same inside the box, but I agree with one of the others and their complaint about the box; the red plastic does not fit the cost and quality of the tools. As for the price, if you want high quality (jeweler-tool and die maker) tools that use tool steel vice low carbon, soft mild steel, you will pay more. I do not doubt that the red plastic cases left the Starrett factory with the screw-drivers in the box. Again, I got my screw drivers on time, the problem others experienced was with the retailer. I suggest Starrett look to replacing them with another.
