5.0 out of 5 stars gentle music for children and adults
I believe that music is a powerful and innate force in our lives, so I bought a number of CDs geared toward children when I gave birth. Most were harmless enough, many became tiresome after a while .... this CD still gets played regularly at our house after three years.

3.0 out of 5 stars a lot of wind instruments...
I bought this CD because of all the rave reviews I read about it. The other people must have been a bit more earthy-crunchy than I am. I found all the wind instruments a bit boring. I think I like to hear a little more piano or something... I love the baby Mozart CD but I thought my baby needed a change every once in a while. Thats why I bought this one. It's ok....

5.0 out of 5 stars gentle music for children and adults, June 24, 2001

I believe that music is a powerful and innate force in our lives, so I bought a number of CDs geared toward children when I gave birth. Most were harmless enough, many became tiresome after a while .... this CD still gets played regularly at our house after three years.

International artists play and sing old favorites as well as songs new to us, but even the old favorites (Rock-a-bye-baby, Brahms Lullaby) are performed in engaging ways which renew their interest. Heaven knows, I am not one to seek out Kumbaya, but I even like that song here! Seventeen songs are presented from the US, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, Ireland, Congo, Ghana, Cuba, Iceland, Israel, England, Russia and Germany. Some are sung, most are instrumental. All are very beautiful and soothing. The CD booklet contains a paragraph about each song with performance credits, original words and translation.

A remarkably soothing collection of lullabies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Music I love even the thousandth time, October 24, 2005

We received this as a gift shortly after the birth of our son, and it was a godsend from the start. These aren't the kind of lullabies that make you want to throw the stereo out the window, nothing nearly so syrupy or bland. I don't get sick of them either, because there's plenty of variety. Instead, it's a collection of various artists singing soothing yet really interesting music. George Winston's quiet piano, Bobby McFerrin's voice, they are all songs I might listen to even if we didn't have a baby- but the mood is perfect. We listen to it every night at bedtime, and I buy it for my friends when they have children.

This CD is great for relaxing and wind-down as well as through the nap/sleep times. My 19-mo-old son and I like it. The music is consistant in tone and rhythm - unlike some others we've tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very relaxing; great for bedtime, November 11, 2005

When my little sister was a baby, she listened to this CD every night. It soothed me to sleep, too. Now that I have children of my own, we are getting even more use out of On A Starry Night. When one of my babies wakes up during the night, we rock in the living room while listening to the soothing and quiet tunes on this CD. We have adopted "Here I Am" as our own personal lullaby that I sing to the children when they have a bad dream or are having trouble sleeping. This is a very beautiful compilation and I recommend it to anyone who needs a little calm and relaxation in their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous arrangements, August 17, 1999
This review is from: On a Starry Night (Audio CD)
I've been enjoying this CD for the past two years since I heard "Little One Mine," a Turtle Island arrangement, playing at a Borders. Since then I've listened to this CD many times and purchased many copies for friends and their children. "Little One Mine" has entered a category of very favorite songs for me; this haunting, sweet, beautifully arranged song has enriched my life as great music can sometimes do. The folks who produced this collection have created a wonderful work.

From the first tranquil track by Bobby McFerrin to the reassuring "Here I am," the international melodies and lyrics are sure to find universal appeal. Its untraditional yet soothing renditions will grow on you. This CD functions extremely well in setting a dreamy mood, and has become a family favorite for naptime and nighttime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Heart warming!, March 3, 2005
This review is from: On a Starry Night (Audio CD)
This is such a soothing CD. I recomend this to anyone who does or does not have a child to share it with. The songs have a deep spiritial sound to them. Bed time is always an emotional time for children and this CD is one that will relax you and your child as you snuggle together and listen to it. Please take time to listen to the samples for this CD.

This review is from: On a Starry Night (Audio CD)
I have been listening to this CD on an almost daily basis at the daycare where I teach. The children love it, and it calms them for naptime. I have become so in love with this CD I am purchasing for myself, because the tranquility I feel when I listen to it is incredible. I recommend this CD to anyone with children or without.

My baby has not born yet, but I listen to this CD a lot becasuse it gives me peace of mind. I live in Caracas, a City with the most stressing traffic jam in the world. This es the one CD that gives me peace.

Another reason to buy this CD is, if you appreciate very good music, and you think that even if it is music for a baby it matters when its played by real talented musicians, this is the right CD.
