5.0 out of 5 stars an achivment, January 16, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: StarryNight Wheels on Mars! (DVD)
I watched this dvd for 15 minutes and I love it. I learned so much in the first 10 minutes. I'm also just an 8 year old. This dvd has interviews with experts. They talk about what they found on mars and their expeirence. This is a great gift for anyone. Also find the pack with even more dvds about space by starry night.

This review is from: StarryNight Wheels on Mars! (DVD)
This video does a good job of covering some of the basics of the Mars rover exploration projects, driving the rover, the bouncing at arrival, the little stones that they ended up calling "blueberries", driving the rovers, etc. It was great to understand the basic job of the rover, as they put it: "drive, drill, take spectra, take pictures." Our son, who was 5 at the time we first watched it, enjoyed it.

Finally, there are few distractions to the otherwise good content, such as: the narrator speaks very fast (maybe to be funny or cute, but makes him hard to understand at times), there are some silly laughs that should have been cut from the video, and some of the people being interviewed overemphasized "dumb luck" and "lucky", and having a "betting pool". I think the careful work of the scientists has more to do with the success of the mission that just "dumb luck" - of course, unexpected things can happen, but "dumb luck" was overemphasized at the expense of the careful scientific work - not a correct message to give to young scientists. None-the-less, it is still a pretty good video. For another excellent video, without some of the silly aspects you may like to see: Big Space Shuttle.
