Book Description

Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy don't just play two people who are secretly in love on a television sitcom--they are also head over heels for each other in real life. When the lines between reality and TV land blur, they hope they can keep their relationship under wraps. But when Kat's grandmother, an aging Hollywood starlet with a penchant for wearing elaborate evening gowns from Golden Age movies, mistakes their on-screen wedding proposal for the real deal, things begin to spiral out of their control. Will their secret be front-page news in the tabloids tomorrow? And can their budding romance survive the onslaught of paparazzi, wedding preparations, and misinformed in-laws?

From the sound stage to a Beverly Hills mansion to the gleaming Pacific Ocean, Stars Collide takes readers on a roller-coaster tour of Tinseltown, packing both comedic punch and tender emotion.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Happily-ever-afters abound in the opening act in Thompson’s new Backstage Pass series. Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy are the stars of the hit TV sitcom Stars Collide when they realize that their own real-life pathways have begun to sweetly entwine. Couple this burgeoning romance with the on-screen marriage of their fictional television characters and with the escapades of Kat’s somewhat confused grandmother, and hilarity ensues. Surrounded by well-intentioned friends and relatives who sometimes seem only to make matters worse, Kat must somehow manage to uphold her chaste reputation, keep the paparazzi at bay, and hold on to the man whom she has begun to fall in love with. An eclectic mix of the sort of zany characters Thompson is known for adds levity to this modern, star-studded romance. Glimpses into a Hollywood television studio and a series of lively comedic events make for a contemporary low-key inspirational romance that will appeal to readers who enjoyed the setting and humor of Rene Gutteridge’s Occupational Hazards series. --Elizabeth Ponder

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Soap Opera February 10, 2011
By B. Gill
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I used to watch soap operas all the time. That is what attracted me to this novel. If I didn't know the author, I would have expected a cut throat novel about the horrors of Hollywood. But Janice Thompson is not that way. She has a wit that is most enjoyable to read. Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy are the co-stars in a soap opera entitled "Stars Collide". On screen they are involved, and off screen they learn that they really do like each other. Kat lives with her grandmother, a starlett in her own day, in her broken down Hollywood mansion. She is the character I remember the most. Each day she would dress in a gown that represented a movie character of the past. The nice thing about this book is that the characters embraced her for that rather than ridicule her for it. Her antics sprinkled through the book are most enjoyable. This book will leave you with a hope that maybe Hollywood can have some good people in it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Many Accessories February 3, 2011
Format:Paperback
Janice Thompson just released a new book called Stars Collide from her new series Backstage Pass. In this Christian novel, actors Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy play two sitcom characters with an on-screen romance. As the screen writers develop the fictional characters, a romance emerges in these real life characters. Their numerous attempts to preserve their private relationship is overshadowed by Grandma Lenora's feeble mind, the news media and the greedy Hollywood map guide.

When Grandma's pink Cadillac and expired ballgowns collide with the budding off-screen romance of Kat and Scott, Hollywood collides with Christianity. Can this budding romance survive the onslaught of paparazzi, wedding preparations, and misinformed in-laws? How do these two Christians hold to their faith and values while in the center of Tinseltown? The story unfolds as we follow the the actors on-screen and off-screen throughout Hollywood California.

I gave this book an average rating, because it does appeal to many and Janice Thompson is an excellent author. I did not enjoy it personally because there were too many strong characters jumping from scene to scene, mingled with some weak characters who appeared as "added accessories." With so many characters, the story has too many twists and turns for my liking. The setting continually changed, the focus character changed, and I was simply lost in Hollywood as I continued to read the book. I found the book frustrating and annoying, unlike the Weddings By Bella series which I completely enjoyed! Other reviewers have given this book an outstanding rating, so remember this review is simply my opinion.

Author Janice Thompson's writes from her own experience in Hollywood. She has experience as a Hollywood screen writer, and followed her father through Tinseltown as he worked. Thompson is the author of more than 50 books, including the popular Weddings By Bella Series. I received an advance copy from Revell Books in exchange for my review.
