Steel Guitar History, October 4, 2003
This review is from: Stars of the Steel Guitar (Audio CD)
On this album you can hear the players who made the Steel Guitar what it is today, the ones who developed the instrument itself, the tunings and the different styles of playing, from Country and Western Swing to Blues and Hawaiian. You'll hear Buddy Emmons and Jimmy Day who both played for Ray Price, Pete Drake, one of the most used session players in the 60's and 70's, Jerry Byrd and Leon McAuliffe, the early masters and Ralph Mooney who actively participated in the development of the West Coast Sound, playing for singers like Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Wynn Stewart. The recordings were made in the 50's and 60's and originally issued on the Starday label. It's good to have this material available on CD!

steel guitar heaven, October 11, 2007
This review is from: Stars of the Steel Guitar (Audio CD)
This CD features all of the great steel guitar session guys from the 1950's and 60's, Buddy Emmons, Jimmy Day, Pete Drake, and, of course, Leon Mcauliff, who got his start in Bob Will's band way back when. If you want to hear some great steel guitar, listen to this CD. I have always loved the sound of the steel guitar, starting with the great Hawaiian music from the 1920's and 30's, on up to the discovery of incorporating the steel guitar into country music. This is a great CD.

You can't get this on Amazon, apparently, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Stars of the Steel Guitar (Audio CD)
I ordered this from Amazon hoping to hear some cool old steel guitar.
Instead I waited for two and a half months and nothing happened. Finally I got an email from Amazon informing me that they could not find a supplier for this CD. This happened in the summer of 2005. Maybe things will change but don't count on it anytime soon.
