A Different Take on a Patriotic Collection, June 23, 2003
This review is from: Stars & Stripes (Audio CD)
Judging from the title and cover, you'd expect this CD to be nothing but a collection of America's patriotic music. It's got more then that, however, which is a nice addition to the genre.
Sure, it's got some standards from the category. I'm happy to have something with the words to "The Stars and Stripes Forever." They also include "God Bless America," "The Star Spangled Banner," and "God Bless the USA." This is where it ends, however.
The rest of the songs on this CD are classic barbershop songs. Since barbershop, at least for me, gives a certain American nostalgia feel, it works quite well. Highlights from these songs include "A Song like Daddy Used to Play" and "If There's Anybody Here from Out of Town."
I'm not sure which category the closing number, "So Many Voices Sing America's Song," belongs in, but it's new to me and I really like it.
Several songs on the CD include guest appearances from The American Pops Orchestra, The Vocal Majority, and Panache. Each group adds to the overall effect of the CD.
This CD does for Patriotic music what a good Christmas CD does for that genre. It includes enough standards to make it feel appropriate to the season right away but also includes some new songs so you feel like you're getting something original for your money. Well worth the money spent.

First-Rate Totally Entertaining Stuff!, March 12, 1999
This review is from: Stars & Stripes (Audio CD)
The Acoustix make you want to sing along with every song they sing. This CD is among the best I've ever heard and I think they should record more just like this one!

Release "unchained melody" as a single to Oldies stations, January 30, 2000
This review is from: Stars & Stripes (Audio CD)
The Acoustix are under rated and deserve wider recognition for their performance of "Unchained Melody" this version is like nothing you've heard before. Upbeat tempo fully instrumented with a driving bass. This song would have been top ten in the 60's. Any oldies format station looking for "new" oldies should give this song some exposure.
