5.0 out of 5 stars Where do I more money?
This book is worth every penny and then some... This book is as informative as it is easy to read and understand. There's a lot more to this business than hanging s shingle that says "The bookkeeper is in". Out of the park!

There were some kernels of info but not many. It just hits the high points not the details. It's too concerned with profitability issues like being able to pay rent even if you work out of your house (so that if you want to sell the business the buyer would be able to pay rent). I WANT to run it from my house and a bookkeeping business is not a get-rich-quick-and-sell-the-business scheme. It's not concerned enough (much at all?) with how to market the business. The cart is waaay in front of the horse. If I could go back, I would not have bought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I expected, September 4, 2006
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
Somewhat disappointed in the book. I was looking for more guidance in starting up a home based bookkeeping service or a smaller service--one with no employees. One of the bullets or selling points on front of book said "Run your own profitable business from home" but the book only dedicated 7-8 pages on this topic. But there was some good advice and items that made you stop and think so it wasn't a total waste.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
I was alittle disappointed. The author assumes that you're going "gung ho" & opening a bookkeeping business with a location & several employees. I was looking for more information on opening a small in-home business with just me. Of course, there are some good tips that will be helpful someday.

2.0 out of 5 stars How to Start Your Bookkeeping Business, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
I saw nothing special on the information provided by this book. It's a canned "How to start your business" kind of book. All you need to do is to change "Bookkeeping" to "Consulting" and you will have another book. I looked over it once and put it on the side. It's now sitting there collecting dust. In my opinion, the reason why someone wants to purchase a book with a specialized subject is to gain some insight on to how to do something. But this book is so generalized, it's not useful at all.

Because of this book, I will shy away from any series published by this company. I should have asked for my money back because you can get better information from the SBA for free.

3.0 out of 5 stars IT'S OK, glad I bought it., August 17, 2010
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
I purchased this book primarily because I was skeptical about it and thought it would shed additional light on getting a bookkeeping service running. Fortunately, I found the book to be helpful. I have owned a tax office for 10 years and wanted to move from seasonal to daily business structure. I feel, in order to gain a good concept basis one would already have to inhabit some sort of business sense. I believe overall the book is very useful however, I would not dare began a bookkeeping business with this literature alone. In order for me to become comfortable enough to open, today I would most definitely use other resources... the best one yet is BOOKKEEPERS FOR DUMMIES inwhich gives you the basics and refresher... this book is great for structure....IN LIGHT, IT IS A GREAT STARTER...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good pointers and organizational skills offered, April 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
I am halfway through reading from starting this morning.

I don't understand much disappointment in the fact that the author didn't elaborate about a HOME based business over renting a space. To me, the author is doing a great job at comparing both scenarios.

It's not smart going into such a publication expecting a total A-Z run down of what to do in dire detail. Everything is open to customization through personal preference, past experiences, and who you may already has clients, and what your home situation is like.

I love all the examples, and organizational tips such as the business plan examples, surveys for clients, suggestions on bill of sale and credit terms, pros and cons of a home based business, how to schedule yourself and be sure that clients understand there is no "dropping by" after business hours (may be a little more difficult for home-based business), even planning and zoning issues that may come up with a home-based business, good reasons for having a website, and some marketing tips!

For around $10, I think this is a great book to invest in and read through for those considering a home based bookkeeping business or those who have just started.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is garbage, April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Start & Run a Bookkeeping Business (Paperback)
This book was nothing but garbage. There was almost nothing written specifically about bookkeeping. It is one of a series of books on how to run different businesses. They just substitute the word "bookkeeping" instead of "coffee bar" or "gift basket business" or "Handyman Service". It was way too general to be of value and I was very disappointed.
