Irvin, a former banker who is now a writer and seminar planner, has written a disappointing book on a subject that could be of great value to entrepreneurs. Irvin's major topic-starting a business without borrowing money-is covered in only one chapter. The remainder of the book is committed to a poorly written, rambling text on market surveys, business plans, computers, and other aspects of opening a business. Irvin does not focus well; his text wanders off into subjects unrelated to opening a business. For example, he spends a great deal of time discussing why not to get involved in multilevel marketing and the importance of not using tar on a gravel roof. And he is not at all knowledgeable in the field of library research. Although he does mention the library, his major piece of advice is to use the Reader's Guide. Not recommended.
