5.0 out of 5 stars This book covers a lot of ground when it comes to being an infopreneur and running an information marketing company!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book covers a lot of ground when it comes to being an infopreneur and running an information marketing company!, August 31, 2008
This review is from: Start Your Own Information Marketing Business (Start Your Own Information Marketing Business: Your Step-By-Step) (Paperback)

I liked this book very much. It is full of good content and covers a lot of bases for someone who wants to take their information and turn that information into streams of revenues. This book was masterminded by Robert Skrob, an infopreneur himself. He wrote the Preface and Chapter 1, and he got other players in the infopreneur field to write the remaining twelve chapters for the book. In my humble opinion, the chapters are well written. But as for the book's outline, I think it could be improved a little. It comes across more as a string of lengthy articles strung together in a haphazard order.

I would delete Chapter 3 entitled "Financing your info-marketing business." Information marketing companies are very cheap to get started. So why devote a chapter to financing such a venture?

I would change the order of the chapters as follows:

I. WHY START AN INFORMATION MARKETING COMPANY?
0. Preface: It's not what you know, it's what you learn
1. Escape hours for dollars: Do the work once and get paid many times
7. Getting the lifestyle and income of your dreams by using joint ventures
II. WHAT IS AN INFORMATION MARKETING COMPANY?
10. An alternative to professional publishers
11. Build a coaching program from scratch, $2 million a year within 18 months
12. A coaching program making millions with no affinity, no money, and no experience in info-marketing
III. WHAT IS INVOLVED IN RUNNING AN INFORMATION MARKETING COMPANY?
4. Simple and easy strategies for creating products you can sell for years
5. The 5 keys to effectively marketing your business
6. How to sell your information product online and offline
8. Maximizing online info-product sales, generate more money from your business
9. Using ezines as a fast and practically free way to sell more info-products online
IV. CHOICE OF LEGAL ENTITY & WRITING A BUSINESS PLAN
2. Protecting your information marketing business
13. Speed implementation: How to get your info-marketing business up, running, and profitable quickly

I would have liked Chapter 13 much more if it had made reference to business plans and consulting with SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives) to get help writing the business plan. Instead, the reader might think it is OK to just start the business as a fling and wing it. A failure to plan is a plan to fail!

I also think there are some fine books that can act as supplemental reading to the four parts I outline above. See also for Part I: "Will Work for Fun" (ISBN: 9780470231791). For Part II see: "Four Steps to Building a Profitable Coaching Practice" (ISBN: 0595296602), and "Coaching Millions" (ISBN: 9788979293287). For Part III see: "The Official Guide to Information Marketing on the Internet" (ISBN: 9781599182544), and "ProBlogger" (ISBN: 9780470246672). And for Part IV see: "Structuring Your Business" (ISBN: 1593371772).

All in all, I think this was a wonderful book. Even though I think it should be reorganized somewhat significantly I think the content is great. 5 stars!

PS. I also think the reader of this book will benefit greatly by reading "Web Business Success" (ISBN: 0974924504).

2.0 out of 5 stars 100 Years of Experience here?, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Start Your Own Information Marketing Business (Start Your Own Information Marketing Business: Your Step-By-Step) (Paperback)
I liked the title, I am interested in the topic, so I bought the book. Five chapters in I am still looking for the 100 years of experience touted in the introduction.

Chapter 1 is a pep talk for what is not to follow. I guess you have to start somewhere.

Chapter 2 is a lawyers review of business structures that can be found in any introductory business text or online for free. I thought it ironic that a line was included about being sued for a customer tripping in front of the business. Hey Guys! This is an E-business! Customers don't trip over things in cyberspace. It would be nice if things like: where exactly a cyber-company is located, or choosing the best tax structure for a cyber-company, were covered. They are not, so don't bother looking.

Chapter 3 launches right into raising money for the new company. One of the chief attractions of this venue for me was the low entry barriers and relative ease with which a company could be launched on a shoestring. Instead we waste an entire chapter telling you what you already know about raising money.

Chapter 4 starts to get to the meat of the book, strategies for creating products. Telephone interviews, personal experience, etc. The actual selection of a topic, though critical, seems to be overlooked. Perhaps I should say, how to choose an optimal topic is ignored. It is assumed you will find some topic to pursue. Some discussion of keywords, amazon research, etc. would have been nice, but don't look for it here. Instead, if you happen to stumble over a winning topic, this chapter will tell you all the wonderful spin-offs you can make with it.

I am seriously considering putting the book on the shelf at this point. So far it has been a waste of time and trees. Perhaps I will write my own....

Just my opinion,
Greg

Finally, someone has written a book that gives you a roadmap to how to set yourself in business without the mystery or keeping the secrets to themselves. I love this book. It has cleared up some of the questions that no one answers in their "how-to" information. The "gurus" commonly tell you what you need to do but don't tell how to do it. This book does both. Every single chapter is full of very rich content that is practical, useful, and best of all, do-able. Thanks for this book. It's about time! I will recommend to everyone I know that is looking for guidebook.

I have spent significant amounts of money on infomarketing resources including almost $1000 USD on Bill GLazer's A-Z Infomarketing Blueprint.

I can definitely say that this book is the best value for money and one of the best resources in terms of info marketing that I have ever seen!

There are chapters by 15 different Information Marketers. Normally I would expect that to make a bit of a hodge-podge of a book but in this case it really highlighted for me the variety of methods that can be used to successfully run an infomation business, and allows the reader to pick a method that works for them -buffet style.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Are Thinking Of Becoming An Info Marketer, Than This Book Is For You, September 17, 2008

This book is detailed and easy to read. My 11 year old daughter could start an information marketing business after reading this book. (And I just might have her do that too)

From start up to launch, you'll find what you need for a beginner info marketer. Make sure you read (scan) the book cover to cover. Then pick out the chapters you need to work on 1st. Then, implement! It's really that easy.

I was working on an info marketing idea for several months. This book is what inspired me to do it NOW. The steps and short cuts in this book are priceless. I'd pay two or three times the cover price for this book (just don't tell Robert that. I don't want it to get to his head).

Bottom line, this book is a must read. As an Outreach Consultant for churches I study all kinds of marketing from many different people. Robert is as good as any in the field of Info Marketing. Pick up and read whatever this man writes and you'll add money into your bank account quickly. But you have to take ACTION. Nothing happens until something moves.

So move your cursor to the "buy" button and get your copy today. You'll thank me later.

Finally the real deal! The book is a real step by step how to start your own information marketing business.
I highly recommend the book, great stuff.

I have been looking for such a book for a long time, I also have read "The official guide on How to create a million dollar business in less than 12 months" Dan Kennedy's. "The official guide" book is filled with stories of successful info marketers, but does not go into great detail about the step by step start up process.
