More About the Author

Hi. I'm E.T. Barton - or Erica to my friends. ("Erica from America" when I travel abroad.) Welcome to my world.

What you should know about me... I'm the funniest person I know. (I know... it's so sad, right? There are no funny people in my life. ;-) )

What you should really know about me is that I am actually a writer at heart, but a researcher by profession. As many writers do, we have to enter the work force to "feed our addiction"... our addiction being the written word. I entered the work force via "the family business," which is bookkeeping. However, I hated bookkeeping, so I decided to make it more interesting. I started my own Office Administration Company around the time my daughter was born, and one of the clients I took on happened to be in the Market Financial Feasibility Research Industry. Although the title sucks, the job description was fantastic.

To put it succinctly, a Market Financial Feasibility Researcher is posed a question - usually having to do with how well a business might do should they add some new element - and the Researcher finds out absolutely everything about that topic, does some beta testing, analyzes all results, and then crunches the useful information into a simple report that anyone in any industry would understand.

Because of that fantastic job, I have done research for some of the largest Fortune 500 companies in the United States and sat at tables with some of the most interesting people. I have heard conversations that blew my mind. And while I cannot reveal names due to confidentiality contracts, I can say that I definitely learned a thing or two.

In 2010, I realized I no longer needed to run the business because my writing career had taken off, so I chucked everything and proceeded to drag my family around the world for the next six months. When I returned to my hometown, it was with a new sense of purpose... to take the skills I had learned in the Research Industry and apply them to ANYTHING that interests me. Once I learn something new and have a bigger picture, I put those things into simple terms that will hopefully make my readers laugh and learn something at the same time.

As a result, my books are about a wide variety of topics - from bookkeeping to business growth, publishing to dieting, and soon there will be even more. All of the topics are well researched and painted in a way that will hopefully make you giggle while showing you another side of things. I do not use any industry jargon just because I want things to be understandable for ANYONE an ANY industry.

So that's me... E.T. Barton, Researcher and Writer.

(And just in case you were wondering, I do also write fiction under the name A.J. Clare. That too has my particular flair for the dramatic.)

Again - welcome to my world. I look forward to getting to know you.

This book could be used for any business, besides bookkeeping. She really showed you step by step, how to get yourself, up and running. Details like best equipment to buy , and sound advice on Marketing. Very important . Great help for a beginner or an old hand, like myself. Your never too told to learn something new.

If you get a chance, please check out the blog on a "Bad Bookkeeper" So funny, and yet so sad, how people do the things they do. Scary. All business owners, should read that first, before they hire someone.

Highly recommended..

I bought this book on my Kindle. The price was something I couldn't turn down and boy did I gain! I finished it rather quickly since I couldn't put it down and I've highlighted portions which I found to be quite useful.

Personally, I would say it's a must read for anyone who has their own bookkeeping business or is thinking about starting one. I also have to say that it's given me a push that I also needed.

I found the information timely, interesting and eye-opening. I've been a bookkeeper for the last 25 years, so I'm confident in my abililties. What has changed so much is technology and the way not only bookkeeping is done, but the way to market the business, as well as helpful tips on services available to any home-based business owner. The author's knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject was great. However, as with many e-books, the spelling was fine, but the word usage was not correct and was, therefore, distracting. Graphics were difficult to read, at best. Requested the PDF downloads as recommended, but never received them. Just be aware of that if you order the e-book version.

The author made the steps to opening a Bookkeeping business very plain. She covered alot of topics regarding the anticipation and outcomes that comes with opening this type of business. They made me very motivated and encouraged me to pursue this career path.

I have only read a small amount of this book, but it is not for a true professional. I am an accountant with 25 years experience. After reading only 30 pages of the book, it really made me wonder if I was way too over-qualified to be considering opening a home based bookkeeping service. The more I read, I realized that these people are just very run of the mill and have nothing to offer. The book is entertaining, to a degree. But, if I buy a book like this, I am not looking to be entertained; I want real advice! They make it sound like starting a home-based business is a joke.

I have stopped reading it and put it in my garage sale pile. They don't even have a mastery for the English language. Every time there is a sentence which should have the word "than" in the text, they use the word "then". Definitely a turn-off. Not going to take any advice from someone who publishes a book and doesn't know English. Additionally, they advertise their website and Facebook page, which don't even exist anymore. If you are serious about starting a home-based bookkeeping business, do not buy this book. If you really do want it, contact me. I have one that I will sell you REALLY cheap!

This had some useful info, but pretty much every graphic (charts, quotes, worksheets) were completely unreadable. There is an offer at the end to have a PDF version emailed which I requested several weeks ago with no response. There are better books out there.

The book did provide some informations on how to start your own practice, but it's more info on website marketing and additional services for the practice. I think for the additional services, it's depend on what type of clients your company served, it's more of a administrative services for some of the things the book had mentioned, and certain things were out of topic that what readers expected to start their own practices. It may be good info for certain readers but it shouldn't focus so much on those topic about additional services expectably heavy on selling stuff online. I believe a profession bookkeeping practice should focus more on what is best serve your client in the first place "bookkeeping" not the little little thing and charge a little cents for this and that. When you read through the book you know what I mean. I usually don't like to write a review and I respect all writers for their efforts to gather all resources and save readers lots of times to find resources on their own but that's why we purchase the book. The reason I gave 3 stars, because the writer had mentioned in the book to reply clients promptly. However, since I purchased the Kindle version, the Author had noted in the back to send her an email to request for the PDF version, which I did send her 3 times but still has no response from the Author. It's been 2 months now, she still hasn't send me my PDF version. what I believe, If she can't keep her own promise, what do you think the purpose of the book to serve? Well, as she mentioned in the book just trying to make money out of any source. I am sorry, but I do hesitate to give credit for those who saying thing but mean nothing, "No Responsible."
