Biography

Black Moth Super Rainbow (BMSR) comes from deep within the woods of Western Pennsylvania. An actual, 4-member band not comprised of the expected laptops and sequencers, BMSR is a psyche-pop group in early '70s electronic clothing. Sometimes the songs feel like pagan rituals in a sugarcoated fairyland. Other times they're like sad thoughts on the happiest days. All played and lovingly assembled by… Read more in Amazon's Black Moth Super Rainbow Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Raspberry Dawn, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Start A People (Audio CD)
BMSR's second full length album sees the group coming into its sound- vocally. On their first album (Falling Through a Field) most of the vocals were whispered and distant, like they were revealing secrets they only wanted you to know. On Start a People the vocoder really comes into play and the lyrics become even more abstract and the vocals are used more as an instrument- much to our pleasure. With songs like I am the Alphabet and Raspberry Dawn, its clear to see that even though BMSR remains abstract- they have pop sensibilities bubbling beneath the surface. I hope this band keeps doing their thing because nobody else is doing it like them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tripped Out Synths With Hip Hop Beats, April 6, 2007

This review is from: Start A People (Audio CD)
Black Moth Super Rainbow combines vintage synths and sampled hip-hop beats to arrive at a unique sound.. That VC-10 (or VP-330) gets a workout. This tripped out music could've been made by giant, black moths from outer space.

Trippy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 16, 2012

This review is from: Start a People (Audio CD)
Great electronica CD! I bought this CD on a whim after hearing a song on Pandora and it was worth it! This CD brings back child-like sounds and catchy harmonies. A unique electronica CD, I've never heard anything like it, hard to explain. The album at first sounds like a bunch of noise and blurps and squelches...then after time it starts to make musical sense.
