4.0 out of 5 stars Useful Information
I found this book to be very useful and detailed. Though there was a lot of misspelled words, I still was able to get the knowledge I needed from it. I wish there were more books related to starting a network and all the projects covered in this book. I am implementing some of the procedures as I write this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information, terribly written
First, this book is tiny. Only 77 pages, including 10 for the glossary. And those pages are only about 5.25 x 7.75 inches. Use Amazon's Look Inside feature to get a feel for the wide spacing on those pages. I've had larger user manuals.

Second, the writing and presentation are so bad that they are a huge distraction. The first word of the book is misspelled...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information, terribly written, February 19, 2010

This review is from: Start a TV Station:Learn How to Start Satellite, Cable, Analog and Digital Broadcast TV Channels and (Paperback)

The first word of the book is misspelled. The first illustration is a grainy screenshot with arrows childishly drawn in. It's hard to find a page not marked with typos and grammar that is awkward at best.

Third, the book is partly a promotion tool for the author's web site. There are repeated references to what the author can do to help startup stations, and some discussion of fees.

But down deep, there are signs of an author who might really know how this really works. He lays out what pieces are necessary for a satellite TV station as well as alternatives in cable, over-the-air, and internet broadcasting. He also includes ballpark price estimates for each of these pieces. And he even adds bits of wisdom, such as choosing a satellite that already has direct-to-home viewers so your new station will have a larger initial potential audience.

For the quality of presentation, this book is terribly overpriced. But if that information is worth the money to you, it's available. Just be sure to use Look Inside so you'll know what you're getting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Useful Suggestions on TV Channel Setup and Distribution, June 29, 2011
By
Lawrence J. Harte "Telecom Expert" (Fuquay Varina, NC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a very short book that provides explanations and tips on how to setup a TV channel on satellite systems. It does provide some useful tips on how to choose content and gives some basic distribution options along with costs. There are some grammatical issues and there are few technical explanations. Could benefit from more TV channel business related information.

The book is pretty basic. I know more than the data provided in this book. An 18 year old can do a better research on the contents of the "Pamphlet". What a waste of my money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, March 8, 2008
This review is from: Start a TV Station:Learn How to Start Satellite, Cable, Analog and Digital Broadcast TV Channels and (Paperback)
Despite the grammatical errors this book gave me exactly what I was looking for. INFORMATION. I wanted to know the costs involved in starting such a project. Satellite TV is still a growing opportunity arround the world and this book really gave me the answers I wanted. If you are looking for something that is to that is going to give you the information you want then this is the book for you. If you are looking for a grammatical masterpiece look somewhere else.

This book is definitely overpriced. It's really like a multiple page pamphlet BUT it had all the information I was looking for. It provides good guidance and points you in the right direction.

This review is from: Start a TV Station:Learn How to Start Satellite, Cable, Analog and Digital Broadcast TV Channels and (Paperback)
Its a very good start when curious about starting your own TV station. It sheds light on the cost and it explores the different venues that host TV programming. The book lets you know whats needed to start one. Also it talks about TV shows and how lucrative they are. Good first step in your journey. Its an easy read and a very concise book. Not worth the full retail price. $47 is expensive. $20 is a good price.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book should be intitled "How to lost his monnay on internet ?", March 11, 2011
This review is from: Start a TV Station:Learn How to Start Satellite, Cable, Analog and Digital Broadcast TV Channels and (Paperback)

This book is definitly a scam. The website look like a scam, he make 2 pages of psychological influence for want us to make our project.

I'm sorry but a real professionnal just explain his job, without "forced" you to buy a book or make a project.

For info, it's 200 $ / hour for talking to this man, without garantie of service of nothing, just for talk.

"If you are not willing to make a small investment in your idea or project then you are not serious about your idea!"

-> I never see before a professionnal justificate his price and insulting the custommer "you are not serious". It's like a scam who try to explain why do you will pay for nothing.

The author also say "you will expend millions to have theses confidencial informations with a professionnal". False. The informations gived in the book can be easily gived by any satellite provider or specialised shop, or wikipedia.

The author just want use naivety of inexperimented businessman for take their monnay... That's not the first guy to sell a immaginary service and giving illusion to be usefull, and that not the last.

That's my opinion, maybie you can read this book and found it usefull, that's your right ! But I've never see someone here say "I've open a media with the help of this man".....

Also, he say "you can be anywhere on the world this book will help you" :

1/ Acces to media isn't the same way in all country
2/ Of course, you will open a media in miami or africa and your principal assisant live in texas.

In 99% of case, when you engage a assistant in your projet, you must have to meet him. Never trust in Internet people, that's the rule #1 !!!

He write "In America you have cable television technologie, in europe and asie there is maybie the cable television or maybie not, I don't know" That's very funny, it's a joke book !

If you need psychological help, maybie this book can help yourself to be motivated... or maybie not when you realise your monnay was stealed by this guy !

This review is from: Start a TV Station:Learn How to Start Satellite, Cable, Analog and Digital Broadcast TV Channels and (Paperback)
Great book. It had all the information I was looking for. Those who write a negative review should read the title of the book. This book covers subjects such as technical know how, and cost to start a tv station.
