Great Overview,

This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
This book is a gem. It is succinct, lucid and logically structured. It is one of the first "how to" books that spared no details. It gets to the point, guides you along and helps you understand the ins and outs of the business. If you are serious about starting a grant writing business, this book will provide you with the necessary tools to get started.
I have received formal grant writing training in college and have worked on a number of teams to write proposals. My decision to start a grant writing business required me to gather resources from my past experience. I decided not to waste time gathering old documents. Instead I began searching for a grant writing book. That is when I located "start your own grant writing business". I have not been disappointed. This book brought back memories from what I learned in class. It is almost an exact representation of how my professor presented the information. Quite frankly, I had an excellent professor. Why I did not give this book a five star rating? It has one flaw. The number of typos does not live up to the advice it gives to readers. If you want us to find a good proofreader and ensure that we turn in a grant proposal free of typos, you should do the same.

Excellent Beginner's Guide,

This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
Start Your Own Grant-Writing Business is an excellent start in creating a home-based business. The authors not only walk readers step-by-step through the process of creating a business, but also make sure readers understand what is involved in the process.
They discuss the traits of a grant writer, then go into the process of finding, writing, and winning a grant. Lists, tips, and warnings through the book add important information to the mix. Although detailed information is provided, the book can also be used as an outline to delve further into any particular topic if the reader so desires. This is not the beginning and the end of grant writing, but it is an excellent resource for anyone desiring to begin a grant writing business. Although a great deal of information is provided, it is very easy to read, provides detailed addresses and online resource information, and is a valuable tool to add to your home-based business collection.

Priceless resource on grant seeking, outstanding contribution,
This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
Preethi Burkholder's "Start Your Own Grant Writing Business" is probably the best resource I have encountered, on grant seeking. I have read many books on grants but this book simply stands out. It is easy to understand, gives precise directions, and also gives listings of places that award grants. I like it because it gives writing samples of successful grant proposals as well. In the past, I have had to consult five or six books to get an idea of how a grant proposal is written, how to submit an online grant application, where to look for funders, how to apply for grant writing jobs and more. Preethi Burkholder's book is excellent because all that information has been compressed into one book. I don't need to consult any other book on grant seeking.
It stands on my bookshelf and I consult it whenever I compose applications. Not only is this book ideal for someone contemplating on becoming a grant writer, but it is also fantastic for any individual or nonprofit looking for grants. It teaches you how to win grants and also tells you how you can make an income as a grant writer. I highly recommend this book. It is worth it and will open countless doors for you, as it has done for me. Many thanks to the author, Preethi Burkholder, for her efforts. I also recommend your visiting the author's website at [...] for more information on grantseeking and grant writers. The author's website is even better.

Start Your Own GRANT WRITING BUSINESS,

This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
This is an outstanding step-by-step guide that I would recommend to anyone serious about developing the skills necessary to assist worthy causes during these difficult economic times. This work is aimed more at the development of a successful enterprise and less on the "how to...." of writing an effective grant proposal. In the latter regard, I recommend "Your Grant Proposal Will Get Funded if you GET IT RIGHT BEFORE YOU WRITE" by Jonathon O'Brien.

Excellent Guide to Grant Writing,
This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
I am a professional proposal and grant writer. I work on a contract basis writing and managing proposals and grants for my clients.
This is a excellent book for everyone who needs to know more about the business of grant writing. Well organized and concise, this book covers the subject matter thoroughly. I recommend you buy this book. It is on my shelf and should be on yours. Ed Benjamin, author of "Cash In on the Obama $3 Trillion Spending Plan!: How to make large amounts of money by conducting business with or receiving grants from federal, state, and local governments" also available on Amazon

Interesting, But Not Very Helpful,
By
This review is from: Start Your Own Grant Writing Business (Paperback)
I cam away not knowing how to go about setting up a Grant Writing Business, which was the reason I bought this book. It seemed that a significant portion on the book was about writing grant proposals, not about starting a business. If you want to learn how to start a business, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

While the book offers the basics of grant-writing, it doesn't teach you anything about the business.

Not only does the book give you information about how to start your own business, it goes over how to write grants, where to find grants, and gives examples. Very well written and in a language that's easy to grasp.

This was my first purchase of a grant writing manual. It gives a good overview of the business but if you want to learn how to write a grant proposal you really need "Grant Writing for Dummies" or a similar book.
