If you want real information on import/export, try the books by Joseph A. Zodl and Carl A. Nelson. This book is not for you.

The premise of the book is that the reader has no absolutley business experience but will soon be operating a successful import/export business. Apparently, the author assumes that although the reader knows nothing about business, the reader already understands international trade, beacuse topics like letters of credit and incoterms are not even mentioned. Instead, the author devotes entire chapter sections to topics such as, "What is advertising?" and "Record Keeping Can Be Simple." There is plenty of savy advice, including:

"If you live in a small town, buy a newspaper for the nearest big city and look for computer ads."

"Where you set up shop will have a certain effect on your accessibility to clients, and it can influence your bottom line as well."

If you need this type of advice, this book is for you. But the import/export business is probably not.

This book was of no help to me at all. I was looking for some detailed and complete information on regulations for export/ import businesses, on licensing, customs procedures, determination of duty-free products - and found none worth mentioning.
This book doesn't cover the specifics of import/export businesses. It didn't answer any of my questions!!!

Like the title says, "Don't waste your time". This had little to do with Import/Export and more to do with starting a business in general. It's only valuable if you know absolutely nothing and even then the value is limited. I would NOT recommed it!

This book might be nice for a pre-kindergarten reading level and someone that has absolutely no serious interest in starting an import/export business, for the others i recommend not purchasing this crap. This book will only anger you when it defines importing as follows "Importing is, basically, the opposite of exporting..." Ya don't say!? I'm still searching for another import/export book worth a flip, so far i've found my best information from digging through the U.S. customs website, better luck to the rest of ya.

The title of the book should be along the lines of starting a small business. Maybe the wrong jacket was put on it during publishing!

It seems as if the author just used a generic "How to start your business" book and included some high level, obvious facts about importing. This book did not help me at all. It has no useful information whatsoever.

This book should prove to be of no help to anyone. The technology recommendations are completely out of date and there is little information on Importing/Exporting. I found it a waste of time.

There is nothing in this book about importing or exporting. It is about starting a business in general and is full of information you could obtain in one average business magazine. Total waste of time.

I am surprised by all the other negative reviews. THis is a good book on the basics of importing. It is a little general, and some is a little out of date. Good ideas, and a good start. I copied the cover so I could read some of the publishers other titles. I liked it. I also recommend Nelson, Zodl, and Weiss' books. THose are more specific with details.
