AAFP sells a book called 'On your Own: Starting a Medical Practice from the Ground Up' for much more than this book. Get this one instead. It has more info and you cannot beat the price. This should be your first book to read in case you want to start on your own. It is not going to give you all the answers, but it is a good start. Happy reading!

Start Your Own Medical Practice-good information but a little too much emphasis on business practices. I don't think a medical practice needs something like a mission statement. But very good advice about where to start your practice and nuts-and-bolts type of info.

This book is great. It leads you step by step in a very organized fashion. It gives you lots of really important information that would otherwise be very hard to find and/or difficult to digest, yet it makes it simple and straight forward.
I would recommend it to everyone I know who's opening a practice... Enjoy

This book would be useful to anyone starting a new practice. It covers most of the basics and is an easy read. It also lists websites to use for certain services. The only thing that it lacks is there needs to be more information on insurance credentialing.

Only the basics,

Includes only very basic information which most professionals already know. Not really practical for actually going through the details of starting a practice...

It even reminds me that I need chairs in the waiting room. This is meant for someone like me who graduates a residency or who just stepped out of a hospitalist job and wants to make her own way in the world.

The author has spent so much time and effort to help you, so it makes sense to read this book before you start your medical practice.
