A must read for anyone who wants to make money from music,

This review is from: Start and Run Your Own Record Label, Third Edition (Start & Run Your Own Record Label) (Paperback)
I read the last edition but picked this one up too and learned so much because it was completely rewritten with all the updated info for starting a record label in today's climate. The digital sections were extremely helpful and detailed. I loved getting the perspective from a whole variety of industry pros interspersed with Daylle's info. I read it, highlighted many spots with post its and got back to it regularly. Besides the good info it will also inspire you to follow your passion.

This book is far more comprehesive in it's scope than I had anticipated! Through a semi-informal style of writing, the author gives specific details and examples illustrating her points. A seminal book for anyone wanting to start a record company or become a music publisher.

This book is an easy read. It is written in a manner which speaks to the "common" person. As such it is a book which retains your attention. The information is top notched and helpful. Thanks!

Too many direct citations in the text makes difficult to read,
This review is from: Start and Run Your Own Record Label, Third Edition (Start & Run Your Own Record Label) (Paperback)
I could blame the author for two major things:1) inserting the huge citations from other people in each and very paragraph in the whole book! It makes the whole text very difficult to follow, why not to write the digested and formatted text and add references somewhere? It's clear, professional and how it must be. Especially, as the author claims herself ex-profession as teacher. And it's her ....th book/edition. 2)she points out the your site should be well-done, you has to be easy-found on the internet, etc. But! Herself she is not using her own advices: it's impossible to find her record label, her production company site looks egm..., her own author site looks clumsy as well. Maybe I'm too critical, but in my opinion when you arrive to the dentist and see his rotten teeth he wont inhale confidence in you... Still, nothing venture nothing gain and I respect the author's step in show biz as I'm a woman and record label owner too.

The problem is there is too much advice from other record label owners. The problem isn't the advice because you can't get enough but not in the middle of every paragraph. There is a chapter devoted to advice and the end of the book also. So i didn't see why it was needed everywhere else in the book. When you get good into the book and you feel like your getting somewhere then there is joe schmo with his two of what he does and as i said there is never too much advice but if I cared what every indie label owner had to say about the business i would goggle that and that is not what i bought the book for
