The StarTech.com triple fan hard drive cooling kit provides maximum airflow for hot-running hard drives, preventing overheating failures and extending the life of the drive. The fan unit mounts in any free 5.25-inch half-height drive bay, and the hard drive is mounted directly behind it using the supplied 3.5-inch to 5.25-inch adapter brackets. Fresh cool external air is drawn into the case through a removable, cleanable filter and blown directly over the hard drive by 3 quiet running ball bearing fans. Perfect for extending the life of hot running hard drives in servers.

I didn't have any issues fitting this into the bay of my tower. It runs VERY quiet and seems to suck a decent amount of air into the case. I actually don't use it for my HD, just using it to get more fresh airflow into the case since it gets hot from being in a cabinet in my desk.

So far it works great!

This is a replacement for the same drive bay fan I've owned for years. Which has been in several PC's, but finally started getting a little noisy as the bearing grease had finally dried out.
If you are looking for a hard drive cooler, or simply an extra case/ drive bay fan, look no further this is a well made durable fan setup! And you have to love the easily accessable and cleanable filter on the front of the unit.
I highly recommend this item.

There are no instructions, but even if there were it would only fit some cases. It's bigger than most standard drive bay accessories, and the front cover is curved. (They really missed the boat not making the filter cover smaller, so it would fit more cases.)

Even if you can get it installed, the Startech FanDrive series isn't stable enough to really support a drive in a 5.25" bay, so your drive may vibrate - unpleasant and maybe unsafe for the drive. Rather than making it two pieces, they really should have made this one piece so there would be more support for the drive. (Though the bracket is so cheap it might not have helped much.)

By the way, the filter cover slides off, something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere - see the image in the gallery for this product. If you're desperate to get it installed in your case, or want to cut it down to fit, that may help.

Other options to consider, depending on whether you want a fan or just a bracket; and whether you want to be able to remove the drive easily.
