5.0 out of 5 stars A solid, reliable, basic hard drive drawer
This is a repeat purchase of a good, basic, hard drive drawer that I use to add a hard drive periodically to do backups. With this most recent purchase, I am going to use the drawer to add my current hard drive as a slave, because I will be upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP. This way, I will have all my current programs and data available as a slave drive, mounted...

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost a very good product...
OK, geek-folk, listen up. This could save you a lot of money. This drive bay works as advertised...but you will struggle to mount the drive into the case. The cooling fan is not too efficient or too reliable. I changed it on one of two drives. The lock mechanism is sort of funky, but it sort of works. Are you getting a picture of this product? On the other hand,...

This is a repeat purchase of a good, basic, hard drive drawer that I use to add a hard drive periodically to do backups. With this most recent purchase, I am going to use the drawer to add my current hard drive as a slave, because I will be upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP. This way, I will have all my current programs and data available as a slave drive, mounted in the hard drive drawer.

This model is not hot-swappable, but I have not been able to get the hot-swappable version working with either Windows 98 or Windows 2000. But shutting down and booting up to add or remove the drawer isn't really too much of a hassle.

First one was dead on arrival. I really wanted one so I order a replacement. It was also dead on arrival. I don't have to be hit on the head more than twice, I gave up.

The cooling fan is not too efficient or too reliable. I changed it on one of two drives. The lock mechanism is sort of funky, but it sort of works. Are you getting a picture of this product? On the other hand, the drives install and recognize correctly and easily. It's a breeze to swap totally different OS's and boot from different drives, just by swapping between two or more units. So, on the one foot, it's imperfect, could be made better, but it does the job, and for a relatively good price.
