Book Description

Party Room January 25, 2005
The party room.

On Manhattan's Upper East Side. Everybody's fabulous. No one gets carded. Then someone dies.

The Party Room is where the prep school crowd goes to drink up and hook up. The cocktails are chill and the bartender's hot. Everyone knows everyone -- except the guy that Samantha Byrne leaves with one night.

The next day Sam's missing. Then she's found dead in Central Park, murdered brutally. It looks like a copycat killing of another girl who was murdered years earlier. By someone from Talcott Prep.

The killer is one of them. He knows where they live. And where they play....

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up–A slice-of-preppie-life tale set on Manhattan's Upper East Side, with a dark twist. Kirsten and Samantha, 17, frequent the Party Room to meet friends and drink–until Sam leaves with a stranger and is murdered. Affluent teens with cell phones, fake IDs, popular classmates, boyfriends, and a penchant for lying are the foundations of this series title. Add to those elements parents in the background, predictable dialogue, and little character development. The strength of the book is in the cliff-hanger ending, which is bound to stir interest in the next book. Despite the lack of character exploration, and the sometimes stilted, if accurate, dialogue, readers will be drawn into the mystery. If you have teens who love mystery series, then you'll want to add this new offering.–Molly S. Kinney, Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL

4.0 out of 5 stars Sinfully Deicious Mystery for Teens, April 21, 2005

This review is from: Get It Started (Party Room) (Mass Market Paperback)
Seventeen-year-old Kirsten Sawyer, and her best friend Samantha Byrne - as well as their posse of pals - are totally living on easy street. Their parents - all rich, and upper-class - deck them out in diamonds, send them to the poshest prep schools, and make them feel ultra-fabulous by having huge, lavish apartments located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The teens spend their time shopping, checking out guys/girls, and partying. That's where The Party Room enters the picture. Anybody who's anybody spends time at The Party Room, a place where cocktails are downed like Coke, the bartender's are super-hot, and the hook-ups happen just about every 2.5 seconds. Everyone loves The Party Room. Until Samantha meets a guy there, and takes off with him. Suddenly she's missing, and then found dead in Central Park. The victim of a brutal murder. The suspects? None. But it's obviously the work of a copycat killer from Talcott Prep. Kirsten knows that it's now her responsibility as Sam's best friend to track the killer before he strikes again, while at the same time trying to avoid becoming his next victim.

Morgan Burke has created an exciting new teen thrillogy reminiscent of R.L. Stine's FEAR STREET. The characters found in GET IT STARTED are sinfully delicious - hooking up, partying up, and drinking up every day of the week. Those who enjoy a cross between Cecily von Ziegesar's GOSSIP GIRL books, and R.L. Stine's FEAR STREET series will find themselves lunging for GET IT STARTED, as well as it's two sequels AFTER HOURS and LAST CALL. One of the best new series to hit the teen section this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Since Sliced Bread, December 16, 2005
This review is from: Get It Started (Party Room) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Party Room is where underage kids go to have fun, get drunk, and hook up with guys until one night when Kirsten and her friend Samantha do the usual until its too late when Samantha leaves with a guy that no one knows. But when she's found dead in the park Kirsten knows she needs to find the killer of her best friend. Kirsten feels that the killer is one of them because they know where they live and hang out. So Kirsten knows she will find him sooner or later so she takes it day by day.
This book will keep you awake and won't let you put the book down. It is very intense all the way through the book and gives you a whole new look on your own life. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The way the author puts the whole book together makes you feel like you are right there with Kirsten trying to find Sam with her.
