This review is from: Starting to Collect Antique Porcelain (Hardcover)
In a Utopia, this is a great guide to starting to collect porcelain. In the real world, very few can afford what is presented. Does have some useful information and the items pictured are fabulous. If you have unlimited funds or you are just a dreamer, this is the book for you.

This review is from: Starting to Collect Antique Porcelain (Hardcover)
This is a very fine introduction to the subject of antique porcelain. The writer's style is "familiar." It is as if you are being advised by a congenial friend who just happens to be a world renowned expert. The porcelain is presented by country of origin and further broken down by major factories within each country. There are excellent photographs of typical pieces of the various makers and suggestions for further reading. There is also advice on how to go out into the market and begin building a collection - including a few tips on how not to get snookered. Sadly, volumes could be written on this subject alone, the antique "business" being what it is. The book is part of the Antique Collectors' Club "Starting to Collect" series, which includes introductory books on antique furniture, glass, silver, oriental rugs, and more. (These subjects are covered individually in separate books, not in this book on porcelain.)
