Whether you're establishing a solo practice or joining a group, beginning the practice of medicine requires considerable forethought. With new and updated information, Starting a Medical Practice, Second Edition helps physicians ask the right questions before they begin the process, and gives them the business insights they need to get their practices running smoothly from the outset.
The guide begins with discussions and exercises that assist physicians in setting professional goals and determining practice structure. It then addresses the operational details of medical practice management, including leasing office space, purchasing equipment, and integrating technology. Chapters on managing personnel, developing policies and procedures, and financing and marketing the practice also are included, as well as information on tax, licensing, insurance and compliance requirements.
Today's physicians enter practice with enthusiasm and idealism, but often become overwhelmed by the business side of providing health care. Starting a Medical Practice, Second Edition offers timely principles and practical advice to help them plan an efficient and successful transition into the practice of medicine.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND,

This review is from: Starting a Medical Practice: The Physician's Handbook for Successful Practice Start-Up (Practice Success! Series) (Paperback)
This was the best $50 that I spent to get my practice started. I was an employee at a large group for 5 years, but I had no idea where to start for certain licenses and regulations. The chapter "Managing Personnel" was especially helpful. This book is concise and clearly written. It has excellent resources listed, such as helpful websites. This book would be helpful to someone just finishing residency and someone who has been an employee of a group for several years. JMMD

This review is from: Starting a Medical Practice: The Physician's Handbook for Successful Practice Start-Up (Practice Success! Series) (Paperback)
This book was amusing, informative and very easy to read. The author spends much of his time promoting himself as a Practice Manager and offers his help and his advice "by the hour". It is difficult, however, to envision the thought of paying an expert whose own book contains a minimum of 1 typographical error per page. I question the attention to detail and fiscal expertise of someone whose own publication reads like my 3rd graders book report (before editing). Typos aside, the book provided us with a baseline level of Practice Management information and offered a solid introduction to what will be a new endeavor for my husband and I.

A bit too basic most of this information is available free online through ACP or AAFP.
