A Quick Superficial Read,

This review is from: Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better (Hardcover)
This is certainly more of a pamphlet or long magazine article than a book. It was delivered an hour ago and have now read the entire thing.Because it is such a quick read the information obtained from it likely seem like nothing more than the reader already knows. There is no real substance or insight to come out of this book. There are no revelations or substantive arguments. Something which covers the biggest events of a decade in such a quick manner can not hope to provide much in the way of depth. That being said, the last chapter does inspire a sense of hope that the next decade will be better. That is one of the reasons I bought this book and why I will at least give it an extra star.

An Excellent Thought Provoking Essay,

This review is from: Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better (Hardcover)
Starting Over is really an essay or an article, rather than a book, and if read in that light is a truly satisfying read. The author touches on the major headlines of the past decade and makes some keen observations regarding some of the mistakes in thinking that lead to some of the darkest moments of the decade. The book is an overview of some enormous topics, never pretending to be a detailed analysis of an era, and it completely succeeds in its mission of being an enjoyable, forward thinking and thought provoking read.

Short Essay Undeserving of a Book,

I read the original magazine article that was well written and full of nice pictures. I thought the book based off the article would be a much more in-depth, picture filled expose based off the original article. Instead it is almost the same article in a tiny black and white book with a few poor quality pictures that you can read in about an hour tops. It reads like an entry level college student's essay. I was disappointed.

First Rater,
This review is from: Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better (Hardcover)
This is a very superficial "book." Actually, it isn't a book but rather a magazine article packaged and sold as a book. It wasn't worth the money spent on it. I am certain that the theme of the book will also be dead wrong: "Why the next one (decade) will surely be better."
