A story of the heart,
By I LOVE BOOKS (Italy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Starting Over (Paperback)
I have always loved Mr. Parsons' books, although this time I'm not sure... A heart-squeezing story though, where the heart, if you excuse the pun, is all that matters, physically and metaphorically. We follow the heart misadventures of George Bailey, who has suffered a massive heart attack and needs a replacement. The donor is a 19 year-old. After the surgery and survival, George's life changes completely. A very emotional path takes him and his family through an unexpected journey.
Mr. Parsons is able to convey emotions in a simple yet deep narrative. Bittersweet feelings alternate beautifully as it is customary with Mr. Parsons' writing and subsequently we ponder over the meaning of life and love. A good book, certainly, although this time it did not fulfill my expectations completely.

Good reading, but as it has been written by a Brits, it is kind of sometimes odd. The story is describing an ordinary man going thru a heart transplant and feeling totaly changed after the operation. He describes how he feels, and how his family reacts to his change of attitude and behavior. Finally he is not too happy with these changes and would love to get back to his former way of life.
Good descriptions, interesting topic, but the writing is not alive enough for my taste and it might be a little bit boring after a while. |
