Starting Small Puppy Novelty Hamper - Tan

I had been shopping around for a hamper to replace the piece of junk Eddie Bauer Hamper Teddy Bear that broke when we were still in the newborn stage. I ordered this cute novelty hamper and a Rubbermaid 4D06 Configurations 23-Inch Foldable Laundry Hamper, Natural folding bin from Amazon. I wasn't really expecting this novelty puppy hamper to be durable enough, and I also suspected it might be too small (yep, toddlers generate a ton of dirty laundry). I figured that if it didn't work as a hamper, we could always use it for storing his toys, etc. When both hampers arrived, I was surprised by the capacity of the puppy hamper... I can fit as much as with a standard hamper (2 - 3 loads). The lightweight fabric provides ventilation for drool-soaked bibs, etc. And I like that it doesn't have a lid for small fingers to get snapped-- plus I'm usually tossing the dirty clothes into it from across the room (from the changing table). And now that our boy is bigger, he likes tossing his own dirty clothes in to the puppy (again, no lid is a big plus for this early training for the ultimate goal of when he can reach the washer and dryer ;-) The Rubbermaid hamper is also very nice... holds a lot, and we're using it for parent laundry.

The size of this hamper is actually pretty good. It competes with my big wicker hamper. Small enough to fit anywhere but big enough to hold a lot of clothes and even a baby comforter. Decent quality. Not sure how it would hold up if completely full... we keep doing the babies laundry so haven't seen it at max capacity.

This hamper matches our child's dog-themed room perfectly. However, despite trying to be careful with how much our almost 3 yr old played with it, she tore it so that now one of the rods always tries to poke through a hole in the back. I could probably fix it somehow - just haven't yet. It is still usable, just always pushing the rod back in. So it is not super durable, but still really cute, & our daughter loves it.

We now have three variations of this hamper, the monkey, the dog and the butterfly. They are fantastic for kids, they hold almost exactly one loads worth of clothing, they are lightweight making them easy to transport from room to laundry room, flexible making them less likely to be destroyed by small children, and last, but definitely not least, inexpensive. It's a combination that can't be beat.

I admit this hamper is an adorable addition to a baby's nursery, but if you are planning to lug this thing around full of clothes than it is not a good choice. I got this for my daughter before she was born and I would say it lasted about a year until the whole thing just completely fell apart. I would simply carry it by the handles across the hall to the laundry room and back.. but it is just not meant for carrying around. The plastic rods that are inside the fabric to give it support come out very easily..and they all ended up breaking in half within several months. I used it without the rods for awhile, but now the fabric has completely torn from the handles so it is just loose wire sticking out. My husband uses a similar style mesh hamper that is extremely durable.. so I think I'll be practical this time around and get something that will last!

my daughter loved this! it is so cute. the only con for me was that the sticks that brace it are not sealed in so they are constantly getting taken out.

All the reviews so far comment on the large size of this hamper, so i expected it to be really big...ended up being smaller than I'd imagined, but a nice size for our small-ish nursery. I thought from the picture that the ears were handles or something, but they just hang and don't actually serve a purpose other than adding to the cute factor. For being under $10, this hamper is a money! super cute and just as functional! it's really lightweight, and the quality is good enough--especially considering how little i paid, I'm more than satisfied with its simple and relatively unsubstantial construction. plus, it's pretty subtle and the neutral colors match our nursery well :)

You can use this as a hamper and it is well ventilated on the sides, which is nice, but I purchased as a gift meant to be a toy box and it would be great for that purpose as well. It is fabric with plastic "poles" on the sides so it isn't super sturdy, but works fine to haul clothes and the like. Nice addition to any child's room.

Very cute:) My kids love putting their dirty clothes in it. My youngest daughter calls it feeding the dog.

It holds their clothes well, no complaints so far.

My original review is below. While everything I said is basically true, I am now editing this review to state that this hamper does not stand the test of time. The fabric around the poles that cause it to stand up and open rip, so that the poles no longer work, and then the hamper collapses. This has happened to both of my Starting Small Hampers, although this one lasted nearly 2 years (the other one lasted only 6 months). I am disappointed, and deducting a star. This hamper is too expensive to fall apart so easily.

This hamper is huge, cute, and light-weight. It is exactly what we were looking for for my son. The puppy's face and paws are made with layers of fabric, which give the hamper depth and make it more attractive and unique. We're very pleased with the purchase, and are looking into buying another one (different pattern) for our daughter's room. The only negative could also be a positive - it's really quite large, so it doesn't fit in the spot we had set aside for it. But it holds 2 loads worth of laundry! Overall, we're very pleased.
