Required Reading,
This review is from: The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs (Hardcover)
I read a lot of books on business and start ups and most of them are either packed with too much theory (that aren't very practical) from professors or they give advise that you see in every other book. This book is much different than the ones I've read. The title is true to its name. Like the Bible, it covers everything in detail and can be read cover-to-cover or as each topic is needed. The detailed table of contents is great and much better than an index (which can lead you on a wild goose chase) because it lists every topic and subtopic. But the real value of this book is the detail of the hard-to-find topics that are essential for successful start ups such as understanding the venture industry, understanding how to raise money (a detailed rational approach), how to write PPMs, understanding term sheets, how venture firms place value on companies, running the business, and understanding strategy. It took me a while to get through this book but that's only because reading it is like taking a course on high tech fund raising, business structuring, and management. If you are looking to start a high-technology company or if you are in the early to late stages I recommend this book HIGHLY.

A solid book for those seeking angel or VC financing,
By David S. Rose (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs (Hardcover)
There are over twelve thousand books available on the subject of entrepreneurship, ranging from the truly execrable to the really good. But Michael Stathis' The Startup Company Bible is one that I can recommend to every entrepreneur and every early stage investor.
As an active angel investor in the US, I have read dozens of books aimed at entrepreneurs. Usually I end up cringing at the misperceptions, bad advice and third-hand information they contain. The great thing about Stathis' work is that he gets everything right. And to do that over 600 pages of dealing with all the intricacies of starting and financing a business is quite an accomplishment. If you are an entrepreneur who is considering seeking angel or venture capital financing, this book will help you understand what the picture looks like from the other side of the table, and what things you can do to strengthen your company...and thus improve your chances of getting funded. |
