I bought the hardcopy of the Startup Owner's Manual at the start of the summer and have been working through it as I build a startup in Seattle. The book has helped me really focus on what we are doing and who we are doing it for. One thing I found was that the size of the book prohibited me from putting into my backpack and carrying it around. If you are starting up a company you know that dedicating the time to sit down, find the physical book and then work through it is hard. With the ebook I have access to the Startup Owner's Manual wherever I go. So when I have an hour in between meetings I can open it up and do some work and make progress or think about my business. I like that they split the ebook up into 3 sections. I'm not building a physical product so I only need the strategy and the web/mobile eBooks.

In addition to the three ebooks there is anoter eBook that is mentioned in the description of the book called the Founder's Workbook. It's an online app that lays out all of the checklists from the entire book into a clickable app. It does require that I'm connected to net to use it, but in addition to tracking my progress I can also keep my notes associated to each checklist item. For me the ebook and app combo work well and I feel like I'm making progress towards building a really good company.

5.0 out of 5 stars the science of entrepreneurship October 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Steve blank has spent his career searching for methods and approaches that companies building new products can use to be successful. This is not a book filled with exhortations. Nor is it just a book filled with recipes. It couples real analysis of why existing efforts have failed and continue to fail with a great set of theoretical and practical approaches to succeeding with new product development efforts/startup ventures. Its an amazing read - far easier than "four steps to the epiphany". Required reading for all startup guys & gals and anyone who wants to better understand the science of entrepreneurship

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing book! January 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There's a number of great books on this subject.

I'm an experienced and successful marketer, with a number of businesses I've founded and co-founded.

However, I still consider myself a newbie with a LOT to learn about startup. That was my conclusion at least after reading this book.

Steve Blank is the absolute Godfather, with a solid process that you should follow for launching your startup in the most efficient way possible.

"Fail Fast" is the catch cry.
And "get out of the building".

Many people try to make their product perfect before attempting to sell it. And spend years of crucial time.

However, that's just plain dumb. If you follow Steve's methodology you'll know if you have a winner on your hands without mortgaging your house, and within probably a few weeks of basic prep work.

Get this book, save yourself so much time, effort, hassle, and money.

This book is revolutionary and life changing!

This book introduces very interesting and effective concepts for managing a start up. It could be more concise, though, even if repetion helps in learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Wide Open October 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has actually opened up my mind to a number of aspects I never would have come across otherwise.

Every other book I've seen share the same ideas but I think this one does things differently.

Good buy....

"GET OUT OF THE BUILDING!!!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good job! October 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
One more time Steve Blank takes this leap and brings his Customer Development method in an attractive way to the reader, using clear and straightforward language. It's more than a revisit to his first book, The Four Steps to the Epiphany: Successful Strategies for Products that Win, because this new one is integrating that vision to a more wide framework. Though the book offers a good introduction to Customer Development, it is more focused on differentiate startups and big companies, showing how their approaches are completely distinct. And, the Customer Discovery method is not described in deep details here, so this book does not substitute the other.

A must-read to entrepreneurs, investors, venture capital managers and business administration enthusiasts!
