Less of a Thrill than a Shock!,

This review is from: Starved [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was a shocking study of human torture, beautifly played by newcomer Leeanne Beaman. What starts out as a typical made for T.V. true story turns into this horrifing character study which leaves you feeling unsafe and distraught. Leeanne plays a doe eyed girl who meets her potential boyfriend at a party. After feeding her with compliments and food, he drugs her and chains her up like an animal then stops feeding her. It's not clear what his motive is for this action, but it is clear the filmmakers don't want you to know. They want you to watch her, and want becomes of her and it is horrible. The make up effects are so real I found myself looking away from the screen. This isn't the kind of film you'd say "I loved it!" But it will keep you thinking and talking about it.

Although the production was low, I thought this film very entertaining. A woman is not only starved of food but her very identity! It's a film which keeps you thinking. In this MTV paced world, with it's "Hollywood" type stories, this film provides a viewer with an intimate look at the horrors of dying slowly at the hands of a maniac. Lee Anne Beaman's performance is excellent as the victim and her friend played by Toni Zobel is very good.

Although I gave this film 2 stars and didn't like it as a whole, it did have some interesting moments. I think that if the director didn't include the B-storyline of the friend looking for Monica, it would've been a better film. The acting was pretty bad on that side of things.
I would've liked the film to have focused on the dynamics between the man and Monica. I will also say that the ending was a little abrupt for me. I know this film was "based on true events", which makes it pretty tragic. But what I found more tragic is that the story wasn't presented to the viewer better.

The acting wasn't bad, but for a movie like this it should have been shot on a bigger budget. Also I was dissapointed that there was no exploitation in the movie, This movie is no collector, It's just a low budget movie somebody probably shot in a day.

i give this movie a 5 because it made me feel sick and twisted while watching it.. you wonder what twisted game he's gonna play next, not how she'll escape. The ending messed me up though. Didn't expect it to end like that... it brought me back to my sane self.

This dismal low-budget film about a woman who gets chained in a basement and starved to death by her date has nothing whatsoever so offer. It's not even worth viewing for kitsch value.
