Product Description

1 lb of Organic Kudzu Root Powder. This is raw kudzu root and, while naturally high in starch, has not been treated to increase its ability to thicken soups, sauces, etc. or remove the naturally bitter flavor as some other products on the market have.

The powder I received from Starwest is gray-green-brown and gritty--not at all as represented by the photo.

It is also very, very bitter. I have used kudzu powder before. My intention was to use the product in gravies, puddings etc., but this kudzu powder would ruin any dish it was put into. Indeed, it's so unpalatable, it's hard to believe it's intended for human consumption.

This photo is deceiving, the powder appears white but in truth it is brown and grainy, yielding nothing like the velvet-like texture of the white kudzu from Eden.

My own fault, I should have read the description more carefully. It is probably just fine as an herbal remedy, but it is not a cooking ingredient.

Somehow the starch is not in the powder. Does not thicken, I even used 5 T to 1 T of regular white kudzu. This is a beige color, very lightweight. Smells like a Chinese herb shop, not appetizing. White kudzu chunks are made using a harvesting process - they explain it on the Eden Foods website.

This has stopped my cravings for sweets cold turkey! My Acupuncturist recommended it and I can't believe how well it works.
