Too bad this album is underrated. It is one of their best ever. If you follow Kool & The Gang's career in the past, you'll find that they always 'progressive'. They always made new sound. Their music was a benchmark for other bands. Gone now the Hollywood Swinging era. Gone Ladies Night era. This album is the Kool & The Gang of the 90's. The closest comparison is Misled, their single hit from Emergency album. In this song you could found the 'rocky' guitar riffs. It's still a dance song, but with a touch of rock guitar. Kool & the Gang reunites with former lead singer JT Taylor. What more you'd ask?

In State of Affairs album, especially in the track Salute to the Ladies and In the Hood, you'll notice that these two tracks are further exploration of the experience they had in Misled. These two songs represents the whole album and it really worthed for only these two. I'm very sorry that this album is lack of promotion and perhaps nobody knows that this album exist. Thanks to the internet.

If you were ever a fan of Kool & the Gang in the past, then you must have this album. You won't get dissapointed.

It is pity to admit that this is one of the most underrated albums in the past couple of decades. "Kool and the Gang"(reunited with phenomenal J.T Taylor) managed once again to prove themselves by releasing this incredible album. If you like their older classics, you will by all means love this one. Every song is "Kool and the Gang" at its finest, varying from slow grooves to funky dance beats. This album is a must for "Kool and the Gang" fans.

I'm waiting for Robert Stack to come on my TV one night and cover the "Unsolved Mystery" story of WHY this album went virtually unnoticed by the music industry and media worldwide!! Shame. Folks, this CD is a GEM!! ... Great material. JT Taylor shines on and on and the mix of music styles and subject matter is vast. Had this album been released in 1985 - it would have surely spawned 2-3 hits, but 1995 forgot about these guys. The chorus of the song "State Of Affairs" sticks with you and you just can't shake it. "Second Thoughts" clearly should have been the single off the album - a Babyface type mid-tempo that is extremely well written and showcases JT Taylor at his smoothest.

This album has a song to fit any of your moods, dramatic or excited or down or whatever! The lyrics are meaningful and easy to understand, and the music is varied and different. A must for anyone who enjoys soft rock or relaxed and mature R&B.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Kool & The Gang Sound, June 6, 2005

State Of Affairs (1996) is the return of James « J.T. » Taylor with his former band Kool & The Gang. Right with the first track, Salute To The Ladies, you're back in the glorious years of this band, with the good rhythm and funk attitute they left with the 1986 Forever album. Taylor is back in form, his vocals are better than is 2 previous solo albums.

In The Hood and Second Thoughts were two excellent songs with an interesting commercial potential, but the album have missed of radio promotion. Color Line is a powerful story with social concerns, showing the growing maturity of the band.

This album is pure Kool & The Gang sound (like the one they develop from Ladies Night). A kind of music that is very hard to find in those days. High quality sound and a well presented booklet. If you're a Kool & The Gang fan, you need this one.
