My son LOVES the take a part toys. He has a plane, dump truck, and now this bulldozer. It comes apart in sections and he loves "working" on his trucks. This toy is great, except straight of the box, with brand new batteries, the drill isn't strong enough to screw the bolts in or out. In our case, it's not a big deal since the bolts are pretty much universal in his other 2 sets, but if this is the only take apart set you have, you might run into trouble. This was a Christmas toy, had this been the only take apart set my son has, I'd be pretty upset. So if you have another set you're good, but if you're looking to purchase a new toy I'd recommend the Black N' Decker dump truck. It doesn't take batteries (it's a plain screw driver) and it develops the same skills.

Our son received this truck for his third birthday and has played with it every day for a week now. I am confident it will not lose its appeal, either! There are seven different screws with a working drill to easily put them in and remove them. The wheels, shovel, and cab each come off. My son loves to be daddy's helper, so tools that actually work get high marks!
I recommend this toy to anyone with a toddler who is interested in tools, construction equipment, or taking things apart.

Got this for my nephew who is 27 months old. He loves Bob the Builder and all construction-related toys. He went to town immediately to take it apart without the drill. Probably due to his age and developing dexterity, he has a hard time taking the loader apart using the drill, but he is more than happy to play with the drill on all kinds of other items, including tables, walls, other toys, etc. He loves it, and I love seeing him learn about mechanics.

The toy says it is for 3+ years old, but the smallest items are the screws, which are about the size of half a roll of pennies. In my opinion, a kid would have to be incredibly determined to swallow one, so it seems perfectly safe for kids that don't eat non-food items. The biggest danger has been that my nephews (2 and 5) want to use the drill with other items that did not come with the toy, with the potential to damage non-toys (witness the crayon marks on the kitchen wall).

This take apart toy is very fun. It can be taken apart and put back together easily. The drill works just fine (contrary to some of the reviews). There are not too many pieces, probably less than 10 so it is done quickly. My 4 year old can take it apart and put it back together all by himself with absolutely no assistance. However, it is challenging for my two year old and he needs help with every step. It is also fun to use as a toy when assembled.

This toy is so cool. I played with it with my friend's son and I swear I even got into it! "Hand me the drill!" I was so impressed that I bought it for my nephews birthday and he adores it as well. A must for any little tool-lover (girl or boy). Ages 3 to 5 probably.

The take-apart feature (the bolts and drill) is cool and fun. However, when our grandchild scooped up objects (except for very light ones), the scoop wouldn't stay raised in the upright position. The pivot mechanism should have more resistance, or the scoop should lock in place, or it should be designed so that gravity would hold the scoop upright when it is fully lifted. Our grandchild found out that he couldn't really lift and transport his blocks and stuff, and he was quite disappointed in his Christmas present. Maybe other kids don't care about this issue. To our 3-1/2 year old grandchild, the ability to lift and transport objects is important.

This toy made a good initial impression. It is well made and able to be taken apart and put back together by a four year old boy. If your recipient likes construction vehicles, this is a satisfying replica. It probably gets 99% of its use as a vehicle, though. Only a small proportion of playtime gets spent on the take-apart feature, which is one reason why I found this toy attractive in the first place.
