State Fair with Pat Boone, Ann Margaret and Bobby Darin, March 27, 2002
This review is from: State Fair [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This version of State Fair from the 1950's is far superior to the earlier version, but is hard to find. Pat Boone was in his prime and perfect as the innocent farm boy who falls for the big city showgirl Ann Margaret. There are great songs, beautiful color and real scenes from the biggest state fair in the country at Dallas, Texas. Star turns are taken by Tom Euwell (Seven Year Itch) as he sings, "Sweet Hog of Mine." Bobby Darin, pop singer, in a rare film appearance, falls for the sister, and gets to croon a couple of love songs. This film deserves to be issued on DVD and is a must for collectors of musical comedies.

Saw Both State Fairs, and the Latter Is Better, July 28, 2003
This review is from: State Fair [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have seen both movie versions of State Fair, the earlier one from 1945 and the latter one from 1962. They are both entertaining musicals with funny rural vignettes and wonderful songs. However, I saw the latter version first, and was dissappointed when I saw the earlier one. Why? Becasue the romance between Pat Boone and Ann-Margaret was absolutely charming in the latter version. All the positives in the earlier film could not make up for their absence.

Best ever "State Fair", October 2, 2004
This review is from: State Fair [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've only rated this 3 stars as it's VHS not DVD. If available on DVD it would be a definate 5. It's a perfect mix of comedy, romance and drama. How can you not help cheer for "Blue Boy" and laugh at the mince meat judging. This movie is what a lot of movies today are missing - heart. PLEASE bring it out on DVD.
