5.0 out of 5 stars Lorber fans - This one's a winner, February 14, 2000
This review is from: State of Grace (Audio CD)
I've just finished listening to "State of Grace" and it reminds me a lot of Jeff Lorber's more improvisational fusion efforts of his earlier years. I have his early 80's albums "Galaxian" and "Soft Space" which share with this one well-crafted arrangements and get-down funky jazz. The song "Katherine" is skillfully remade from "Soft Space" and is an EXCELLENT road tune (both versions are, for that matter). It's a shame the older albums aren't commercially available, but anyone hungering for a taste of vintage Lorber keyboard work will finish with this album full and content for some time. It's a great listen from end to end. There's an endless array of nice musical touches such as bass clarinet accompaniment on two tracks, and sax work by the awesome Art Porter and Lorber protege Dave Koz on others. Don't miss out on this one. Good on ya, Jeff.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for every jazz collector!, September 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: State of Grace (Audio CD)
Jeff Lorber's State of Grace CD is a non-stop good time of jazz, funk, and lounge music all put together! His tracks are accompanied by some great talent: Dave Koz, Art Porter, Eric Benet, Sue Anne Carwell, Gary Meek, Michael Landau, Marlon McClain, Stuart Wylen, Nathaniel Phillips, & John Robinson. This is not to be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Want Smooth Jazz That Isn't Boring? Get This, February 24, 2011

I've been a Lorber fan from way back, but have neglected the genre of "Smooth Jazz" until I started to rebuild my jazz library. While this may not be his most driving, beat driven music it isn't going to put you to sleep at the real. It is well balanced. Classic Lorber that will have you head nodding to the music.

If you like funk and fusion jazz, he is the man. All of Jeff's CD are great, and it is my opinion he has no bad cut's. I think you will enjoy this music now and for years to come.
