3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Second Effort
Australian sexpot Holly Valance previously scored huge in the UK with back-to-back aces in "Kiss Kiss" and "Down Boy" from her otherwise spotty debut FOOTPRINTS. Being as how that album was all over the map musically, some identity seeking was in order. So here we have STATE OF MIND, a for-sure better record than the first and oddly enough eliciting more Kylie...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Right State Of Mind..., April 27, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
This is a cd that like Love. Angel. Music. Baby. it's just not deep so its good to play when you don't feel like.......
Deep stuff and just happy with the world!!
its dancy, itd poppy, its Eletronic, Its memorable, its Holly!!!

so buy it!!
Faves:
State Of Mind: This track is sexual abit, sounds abit weird when you havn't heard it often but its definately HOT!!
Over N Out: This song has a Hynotic beat which is abit girl-power and i definately LOVE this track!! and i can definately relate!! i can see a video for this one shame this probably ain't gunna be released!!
Double Take: Good Track, Good Beat, Good Message, Definately Disco-like.
Action: This track is definately Dancy and strong and Cool
Somebody Out There: This is like the only Ballad-like track on the album.
Curious: Most Disco like track on this album
Richochets: A slightly slower song on the CD too.
Tongue-Tied: its similar to Breath On Me on In The Zone but the beat leads the song, the vocals basically are an undercurrent on the track!!

Buy It if you like Kylie or Madonna or just want something thats not deep, because this album is not deep and just Give it a go, listen to it!! This is a good CD for a Disco!! so BUY IT!!
but if you like Delta you probably won't like this its like the Complete opposite!!!!
But Give It A Go

Summurie: Buy It If You Like Disco-Dance-NoneDeep Stuff or wanna try something new!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Better than "Footprints", May 10, 2004
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
I just Hated this album the first time i heard it(same as the first time i listened to her first album). But most of songs are a good choice for a single!.There is ONLY one ballad song, and it has a cool beat.

1.-Hypnotic-9.Dance song, very very electronic. The beats are simply awesome. Its very sensual and the chrous is catchy
2.-State Of Mind-9,5.Her first single on this album.Its perfect,very electronic,and catchy.Its definately a grower!.It has such a great beat.
3.-Everything I Hate-9.Another dance song, less electronic than the first two,but is just as catchy as them.
4.-Desire-9,5-Great intro, great verses, great vocals, great beat, AMAZING chrous.Does a song need something more?NO.This is supossed to be the second single and rumours say that the track is being re-making as a single.I hope it woulnd't change a lot.
5.-Curious-8.Is catchy and very electronic. It hasn't had the best lyrics.
6.-Ricochets-9,5.Her Only "Ballad" song.It has such a great lyrics and vocals. The chrous is very very catchy. For being a ballad song it has fastly beats.
7.-Roll Over-8,5.The lyrics aren't that great but this track is very catchy. It has as all the tracks on the album, fantastic beats.
8.-Tongue-Tied-7.Great beats but it isn't as great and as catchy as another tracks
9.-Over N Out-7.Same as track number 8.
10.-Somebody Out There-9,5.I have just read that a reviewer said that this is a "slower song".Where do you have your ears? You have may not heard this song full, because it has impressive beats, lyrics and chrous. Is an ELECTRONIC song(Pop with electronic beats if you want)
11.-Action-7.Same as tracks number 8 and 9.I think this 3 sound very similiar, maybe im wrong, but are the "weakness" tracks of the album
12.-Double Take-10.I LOVE this song. The same reviewer said that again is a slower song...no comments, this is a fast song!it has the best Beats in my opinion!(listen to the song at 2:06).Catchy and lovely.Maybe her vocals and lyrics seems to be a slower track but it isn't.
13.-Please Please Me-10.Bonus track.OMG it has such a good chrous,lyrics and beats.
14.-Just Like Me-10.Bonus Track. This is probably the best song.It has a strange beat and a "lala" part sound. It's catchy of course :) and really enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holly Valance Really Rocks!!!!, July 30, 2004
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
This 2nd CD from Holly Vance is really incredible and has been playing non-stop in the CD player of my BMW M3 the last 2 months! It's pop disco very similar to Kylie Minogue, Britney, et all, with really excellent vocals from a beautiful girl. Ther's not a bad song on the CD, and manypotential Number One Hits if it ever gets distributed in America.

Unfortunatley, Holly's first album CD was a little too ho-hum and probably bombed in the USA, and hence her label hasn't brought this new CD to the Colonies from England where the Aussie lass (shades of Kylie!) is now based. I found State of Mind in an Italian music store in Italy and bought it because of the sexy cover, but after playing it back home I was totally blown away. As an import from Amazon.com it is a little pricey, but well worth buying. It's pop rockin' chart bustin' tunes from a beautiful girl and plays purrrfect accompanyment to my Bimmer buring up the freeway at three digits.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!, May 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
I work at a Castro gay bar where I first heard the single "State of Mind." Thought it was cool but not earth-shattering. Then I was hanging out with a friend from overseas and he was playing this CD. Had to get it for myself .. what a killer sound!! I especially love tracks 4 and 7. Get this if you want to round out your pop collection .. I hope this is where the genre is headed!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's my state of mind, March 19, 2004

i was horribly disappointed by "footprints" which is what made me think twice about buying this album, no matter how much i loved the single, however i took the chance and bought this cd and i am so glad i did.
hollys' sexy vocals float of all of these tracks and each and everyone of them make you want to get up on the dancefloor.
as several people have mentioned, this cd has an eighty's vibe to it, and it's good to have some continuality in a holly valance cd.
here is my rating of the tracks on this cd
hyponotic: amazing! so sexy. 9/10
state of mind: the first single, didn't do as well as previous songs but one of my favourite 9/10
everything i hate: another quality song, 8/10
desire: the follow up of state of mind, tho it's yet to be released 9.5/10
curious: addictive 10/10
ricochets: 8/10
roll over: i love this song!! should be a single 10/10
toungue tied: not very memorable 7/10
over 'n' out: 7/10
somebody out there: a slowish song 7.5/10
action: another winner!! 10/10
double take: a slow song. 9/10

now you can see why this is one of my favourite cds

5.0 out of 5 stars overlooked pop delight. so hypnotic., January 30, 2004
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
from what i understand holly's personal doings have ruined her chances w/ this release in the UK. a shame because it is a great pop album. taking a cue from dannii minogue, holly's producers have drenched her in electro beats from the 80s. the results are smashing. so many standout tracks i don't know where to begin. some highlights include the title track, "everything i hate", "curious", "desire", "hypnotic", "roll over", "action", etc. don't expect to find an amazing singer. that's not what you are going to find. rather you will find a fun smart pop album with catchy songs that rivals a lot of crap the music industry has churned out of late (kylie, britney, etc.). so if you're looking for a pop tart, here she is..."so hypnotic".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Follow-up, December 2, 2003

This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
I love Holly, I am a fellow Australian myself and was a massive fan of her first album and her top 40 singles off it ("kiss kiss", "down boy" and "naughty girl"). The first album "Footprints" was not a huge success but it was honestly a great debut. I found that those people who had never heard the album said negative things about it, whereas people who had the album really praised it.

Now her follow up is just as good as her first album. The sound is very 80's, which is actually a master to achieve 20 years after the decade. The first single "State of mind" is a fantastic dance track with cutting edge sounds. The albums other stand out tracks are "Everything I hate" (which has to be the next single in my opinion, followed by "Desire" and "Action").

If you like Pop and Holly than get this album, you will love it!!

P.S. It is better than Kylie's "Body Language".

5.0 out of 5 stars "Hollow Valance" Because This Album Is Devoid Of Good Songs!!!, July 24, 2005
This review is from: State of Mind (Audio CD)
Once again we find another so called "Soap Star " who decided she wanted to be a singer. My least favourite track on this album would have to be "State Of Mind" which seems to carry obscure and veiled references to illicit drugs. It is always funny how true talent remains constant and I found this album for $2.50 at the Bargain Bin of my local music store. I give this alum 5 stars because thankfully Ms. Valance has fallen into the great Wasteland Of Music Obscurity which is where no talent singers always seem to end up in sooner or later.
