Album of the Year---so far,
By
This review is from: State Property (Audio CD)
The State Property album is fantastic. Jay Z has a great group under his Roc-A-Fella label. Beans, Sparks, Freeway, Neef, Oschino, and Young Chris have a great chemistry together. This CD is chocked full of bangers, and 13 tracks are great..no filler and no skits. Stand out tracks include the first single "Roc the Mic" with Beans and Free Way, Sun Dont Shine, Get Nowhere, and Trouble Man. Beanie is on top of his game and the rest of the Roc family has never sounded better and more hungry. The CD as of March of 2002 is the album of the year, but Im sure there will be plenty other hot joints by the time the year is over. Either way, this CD is definitely worth copping.

Hip-hop Album of the Year (2002) - A Legitimate Contender,

Top to bottom the best and most complete hip-hop album I've heard all year. State Property breaks away from the current hip-hop scourge of releasing an album everytime a track hits the charts and then surrounding that one track with sub-standard efforts. While you'll probably recognize the opening track, "Roc The Mic" from MTV and/or BET its far from the only great cut on the album. It is a must have for any complete collection and its thankfully free of all the hip-hop/R&B collaboration most of us have suffered thanks to MCs unable to compile a compelling album on rapping ability alone. These guys are top-notch and without a doubt the best group producing new music out there.

A few songs are exceptional, especially my favorite song from this album titled "It's Not Right". The songs that aren't great are generic and lackluster. Worth buying the album for the few good songs that are on there though.

I actually ordered this product on accident, I thought it was the movie. But it doesn't matter anyhow, I like Rap music. This is a good CD/soundtrack. The service was quick and good, didn't take forever, actually got here faster than I expected (5days). Product in perfect condition and I would order again/recommend.

After Sigel bought us 2 bangers in 2 years he gets his boyz from Philly together to shine on this great album, just one year later. Slightly better then the "State Property 2 - Chain Gang" album, which I'd give 4.5 stars. Packed with just 13 songs, no skits, it has 2 classics, 2 almost classics, 1 ok song, and the others are good or great songs. All the members get a nice chance to shine (other then Neef of the Young Gunz who only has 1 verse). No one other then State Prop gang is on here other then doing hooks so they get a nice introduction. Production is great as well. Just Blaze does 4 songs, Kanye West, Mo Betta, Ruggedness, Rick Rock, Zukhan, N.O. Joe, Black Key, DR Period and Big Demi all do 1 song. You get some hardcore lyrics and a lot of street bangers about gangstas, hustlin, and death. A must have album for rap fans.

After Beanie Sigel dropped his first two albums, he started to act in movies. This album is the soundtrack to one of his best movies, "State Property." It can also be considered an album by him and his boys since that is the name of their group as well.
1. Roc the Mic (Featuring Beanie Sigel & Freeway) - Pretty good beat, Free and Beans both spit good, hook isn't bad - 4/5 2. Sun Don't Shine (Featuring Young Chris, Oschino, Freeway, & Neef) - Good beat, everyone spits pretty good, hook is good - 4.5/5 3. It's Not Right (Featuring Freeway, Young Chris, Sparks, & Beanie Sigel) - Great beat, everyone spits good, hook sounds alright - 4/5 4. Do You Want Me (Featuring Young Chris, Sparks, & Oschino) - Great beat, everyone spits on point, hook sounds alright - 3.5/5 5. Sing My Song (Featuring Oschino & Sparks) - Good beat, O and Sparks both come good, hook is pretty good as well - 4.5/5 6. No Glory (Featuring Beanie Sigel) - Decent beat, Beans rips this track, no hook - 4/5 7. B**** N***** (Featuring Beanie Sigel & Sparks) - Good beat, Beans and Sparks spit pretty good, hook is decent - 4/5 8. Why Must I (Featuring Beanie Sigel & Sparks) - Pretty good beat, Beans and Sparks rip it, hook is good - 4.5/5 9. International Hustler (Featuring Freeway) - Good beat, Free murders this track, hook is great...arguably the best track on this album - 5/5 10. Hood I Know (Featuring Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Young Chris, Sparks, & Oschino) - Different but good beat, everyone spits pretty well, hook is good - 5/5 11. Got Nowhere... (Featuring Beanie Sigel & Freeway) - Good beat, Beans and Free spit good, hook is wackkkk - 3.5/5 12. Trouble Man (Featuring Beanie Sigel, Sparks, & Oschino) - Great beat, Beans, Sparks, & O all spit pretty good, Beans hook is slow but good - 4.5/5 13. Don't Realize (Featuring Beanie Sigel & Rell) - Pretty good beat, Beans rips it, Rell comes great on the hook - 4.5/5 Overall: 55.5 /65 4 Stars This album really surprised me. Beanie's group all have pretty good rhymes and all shine at various moments throughout the album. There isn't one wack rapper out of the whole clique. The beats are all pretty good minus maybe one or two of the tracks and the major flaw about the album is the hooks, but it's a good group album nonetheless.

when you doubted and didn't think beanie sigel's boys would come out hot, you was proved wrong. this album is blazing hot, and not mainstream or commercial rap at all. this album is so hot, even though its so street/gangsta rap, it still managed to come out with a music video. the video that they came out with was probably one of the hottest if not the hottest track of 2002...Roc the mic. beanie sigel and freeway teamed up in roc the mic and they flowed over a real laid back hot beat. roc the mic was the perfect formula lyricially and the beat to be a hot track. the rest of the album, the boys of state property attempt to shine and show people their mc skills. not to many other standout tracks, but their is...to tell you the truth, if this album is not in your collection, then you should get it.

This is the hit, and it's bangin' 10/10 2.Sun don't shine:Nice beat but needs better street rappers 6/10 3.It's no right:With Freeway in da mix, it's hard 4 dis 2 go wrong, except the beat needs a tune up 8/10 4.Mami do u wan't me:A gangsta love joint. It makes a great song in many diffrent ways. 9/10 5.Sing my song:I loved dis song when I first herd it. Street rappers and a streetbangin beat 10/10 6.No Glory:Beans makes a great story, but couldave used a better beat 7/10 7.B**** N****:This song is strait off da hook son! 10/10 8.Why must I:I don't know why, but I'm not really fellin dis song 5/10 9.International hustler:Da best song off da whole thing. Freeway blew up on dis 10/10 10.Hood I know:Needs a better beat, but Beanie and Freeway made it good 8/10 11.Got nowhere:Another Freeway and Beanie banga 9/10 12.Trouble man:I'm not really into dis 4/10 13.Don't Realize:Beanie had to blow up at somepoint, and he saved the 2nd best for last, and he didn't make the CD weak at the ending 10/10 Anyone looking for a ROC blast then here it is. Try out Cam's CD, and Noreaga's too. But I can't wait till Freeway cumz out wit a solo title, cuz he da best on dis whoole thing, right in front of Beans. |
