I am rather thankful for the devotion Todd Durrant has for modern synth; this release is indeed well worth placement in your collection. From the darkwave lustre of Intricated and Pulcher Femina, whose respective releases I sought all as a result of this synth anthology to the Depeche Mode simulacrum of Perfidious Words (post-Violator era), I well-enjoyed this and the companion "State of Synthpop 2003". Of the reviewer who condemned the release I might only write that one should probably discredit his opinion as misguided.

This set of CDs is a lot of fun, and a great way to get back into synthpop if you've been away from it a while. I've discovered several of my favorite modern synthpop bands just by listening to this compilation then researching the songs/bands I like. There are two stinkers included, but all the other songs I found to be great and/or at least pleasant. I highly recommend this collection.

I'm a huge fan of synthpop & various styles of electronic music but my favorite genre has got to be synthpop, electropop, futurepop, etc. There's just something addicting about synthesizers & it's introspective & lyrical aesthetics that for me surpasses other scenes like trance, house, techno, etc. But sadly on this 6 disc compilation the bad stuff really outweighs the more talented artists present. I would have to say that the stand out tracks come from bands like The Dignity of Labour, Cosmicity, Edenfeld, NamNamBulu, Code64, Carnival of Dreams, Perfidious Words, Celluloid, Neuropa, Ganymede, Psyche, Paradoxx, Bit Pixel, Syrian, Michigan, Opium, Rename, Universal Poplab, Macondo, Children Within, Intuition, Basic Pleasure Model, I Synthesist, Univaque, & Rupesh Cartel. This might seem like a lot of bands but coming in at 90 tracks on 6 discs there's obviously a lot on here that just plain sucks. Definitely not worth the money. I would opt to purchase single tracks through Itunes or Beatport.

Fabulous mix of great music. I love this album. You really get a lot for the money and all of the songs just flow into each other.

There's a reason that each artist on this compilation only has one song on it--it's because after you hear the song, you're going to find yourself secretly wishing you never have to listen to anything recorded by them ever again.

I'm a tolerant person, but this comp. really pushed me over the edge. In addition to being just plain bad, some of the songs were so amateur-ish that the vocals were even recorded out of tune at certain points. I gritted my teeth and listened to all 6 cds. I assure you I won't make that mistake again.
