If you're the type of person who mainly watches American Idol and buys the occasional Tiesto album, don't buy this. There are no big hooks, not like there were in 2007 and 2008, no massive anthems like "Lost." Armin is the DJ who is the most faithful to the genre, mixing track after track of aggressive trance. I saw him live earlier this year. It was bedlam.
I can't quite figure out why John O'Callaghan deserves to lead off both CDs; saw him at Cielo in New York City and it was dance floor ruin. He played nothing but hammering tech trance until all the girls fled and there was a crowd of 25 dudes headbanging around the DJ booth. Mat Zo gets the award for best track of the compliation with "This Fractal Universe." Young Ashley Wallbridge is here, but in my opinion, Armin picked the wrong Wallbridge/Nealon track. "My Blood" is better. The mixes are a little clumsy sometimes. There are a lot of cuts, and not much blending. Then again, if you want blending, pick up an Anjunabeats compliation; there is one coming out soon. The Above and Beyond guys can really take you away. No, you listen to Armin because he picks the best tracks, he says what's good and everybody listens. He dictates taste. While Tiesto is off doing lord knows what with Tegan and Sara, Armin is burning down dance floors. Watch the man perform; he is an animal, a freak of nature. He is a perfectly genetically engineered DJ. Casual fans will like ASOT 2008. DJs will like ASOT 2009 better. Keep that in mind.

Two and a half stars.,

This was no where near as good as his 2006 album, which I think was the best. A lot of slow boring music on this cd. I was very dissapointed and I feel I wasted money buying this album. Don't get me wrong. I'm gonna buy more of Armin. I'm a really big fan but this cd was just blah. No fast moving beats, just slow junk. It's like he didn't even try. Very dissapointed. If you don't have the 2006 album of "A State of Trance" then you need to get it. You won't be dissapointed.

LOST IN A STATE OF TRANCE,

Armin VB pulled me into trance music with the Imagine album and this mix revealed his genius. Caught off guard I had to stop everything I was doing and just listen. He delivers pure excellence and it's not for everyone, that's what I love about it.

Tittle says it all. Very disappointed by this CD. No tracks to wow you, no tracks to you want to press repeat on. Its probably one of the most mellow Armin CD's I have heard. Just one of those chill and low key CDs. I was definitely not expecting this kind of CD from my all time favorite DJ. Yes it stinks but knowing Armin he will come back with a much better CD to top this. Let us forget this one and move on. But, no matter what he puts out as a CD AVB is still one of the best producers and live DJs.

VB is always good. This one does not have as many good tracks as 2010 but regardless VB is good enough that I can always go back and listen to time after time.

The 6th entry into the ASOT series, and while not my favorite in the series, it probably hits 2nd place.
The first disc is definitely my favorite of the two, with tracks 1-5 being an awesome intro track list. Most of the disc is very laid back but there are a couple of massive peaks, especially with "Faces". The mixing is very well done as always by Armin, and the track list is very good. The second disc is still very good, but just doesn't have the great variety of melodies that the first disc does, though Tuvan is pretty freaking awesome :). All in all, this is a solid addition to any trance collection and would definitely recommend it, but if you just want an introductory ASOT album I would highly recommend you go with '07 instead. That album is genius. Enjoy!

State of Eurotrash 2009,

I'm an avid listener of Armin, and I think State of Trance 2008 is an absolute destroyer of an album, so don't think I'm a hater. But I gotta warn anyone thinking of buying this album to think twice. The hit / miss ratio on 2009 is pretty bad.
It isn't until track nine that the album starts to heat up (and it's a doozy, "Helpless" is an incredible song). The next song "You Walk Away" is also pretty sick, but then the album sounds like watered down eurotrash again until near the end. If you don't have 2008, get that first. If you're up to speed with Armin and have all his stuff up until now, go and buy this one. But don't say I didn't warn you.

I am new to the music of Armin Van Buuren but wanted to buy this CD after hearing some of his music on FM radio. I am glad I purchased it. I am also checking out some other artistes in the same genre like Anjuanabeats and Paul Van Dyk. I recommend you try them too.

This is one of the best Trance CDs I have ever heard. The high energy vocals and building songs combined with nearly flawless transitions makes this CD a real gem. I highly recommend it. A must for any Trance collection
