1.0 out of 5 stars Incestual and Disturbing
What started out as a somewhat stimulating and erotic read quickly turned into a nightmare. Incest and pediphilia are not what I consider "erotica".

and the decadent rich, titled and noble families that live there make for super naughty stories. Certainly the greatest thing about Victorian erotica is that while appearing prim, proper and virginal on the outside, just take them behind a closed door or hidden shrubbery in the garden and we ususally have an immediate 'Jeckly and Hyde' transformation.

And they certainly enjoy their hot sex with narry a thought about who it is with... In this book we have the live in governess Miss Martin reach an agreement with the lord of the manor, Easton Sherwood, to seduce prettty well all the women living at the mansion and the neighbours as well. Our lecherous Easton of course jumps at this proposal as a means having 'access' to his niece and daughter.

The fly in the ointment appears almost imediately when Easton's wife, Letita, makes exactly the same proposal on the condition that Easton immediately fire Miss Martin and force her out of the house and out of a job......

The those that enjoy Victorian erotica this is certainly a great book and of course well enough written to maintain your interest in the story .....

4.0 out of 5 stars Insatiable, smoldering underground Victorian erotica..., July 27, 2004
This review is from: A Stately English Mansion (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't read a lot of Blue Moon books and I especially don't read books written by anonymous authors, but this novel was too smoldering to resist. A Stately English Mansion is a classic erotic novel written during the Victorian era. It tells the story of a young woman who lets loose after she takes the reins of the English mansion she works in. She becomes a rather interesting dominatrix with the employees, home's family members and the neighbors. The unidentified author takes this tale to erotic heights I have seldom read. I would have liked to know who the author of this wonderful novel is, for this is a true Victorian classic, but I guess that holding on to this wonderful book will have to suffice. I cannot recommend it enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Erotic, October 31, 2004
This review is from: A Stately English Mansion (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought the story was intriguing. I am very interested in the Victorian time period and although I'm not an expert on such things I do think this author told a convincing story. It read like something that might happen, with just enough of the fantastic to make it really memorable. I recommend this book, and if you enjoyed this one you will also like Bedtime Stories for Women by Nancy Madore, which also takes you back in time with erotic fairy tales.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty hot Victorian read!, October 20, 2004

This was a pretty good read - enjoyed the characters and the writing. If this was the true Victorian era --WOW!! So prim and proper on the outside but lots of sex and domination on the inside. At times I think the book wondered a bit, including so many characters but I suppose that was to show that the sex and domination was not just in one Victorian estate but it was in many or most of them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Victorians, Mansion, Lust: Let the Sex Begin!, August 10, 2011
This is pretty good for what it is: erotic literature with no pretensions. It is set in Victorian times, but there's actually no way to know when it was written. The language sometimes seems quite modern. It's full of detailed descriptions of sex (regular, oral and anal) beween men and women, between women and women, among the gentry, between the gentry and their servants and between servants and servants. Not a bad thing overall, but don't expect great literature.
