I will keep this short and sweet with my review of Nonpoint's debut. Check out What A day, Victim, and Mindtrip. The rest of this release pretty much blows. With what a day being the only real defining moment here.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new band worth checking out, July 11, 2001

With the current onslaught of manufactured nu-metal bands this past year, I didn't think anything could really catch my ear--until I bought 'Statement' on an impulse buy. Elias has a pretty unique voice and is pretty much what makes this CD so interesting. The music on here is just straight out heavy and you can literally feel it pulsate throguh your speakers. All of the members seem to work well together, and listening to this CD, there is no doubt that they have a lot of chemistry between them. The opening track "Mindtrip" will have you hooked, straight through the killer single, "What a Day" and onto more guitar heavy tracks such as Double "Stakked" and "Misled." But nothing on this CD is more interesting then when the band takes on some of hip-hops current stars on "Tribute." If you like this band, I highly suggest Puya. Also check out (hed)p.e. and Taproot if you enjoy this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your average band, November 1, 2000

This CD is definitely not what I expected. I assumed another nu-metal band was on the scene and that it would be more of the same type of thing that was becoming standard issue for the genre. Statement has great elements that combine many different feelings throughout the album. Songs like 'Victim' and 'What A Day' just get stuck in your head. The choruses are all very catchy without being annoying. I think this band has great potential, and will be completely overlooked by the mainstream market. Do yourself a favor, pick up their CD and go see them live before they get really big.

Nonpoint use a mix of sharp, crunching, in-your-face metal and smooth melodic grooves to make an amazing debut album that will blow fans of the nu-metal/hard-rock genre away. There is a vast range of styles on this album but they are all in the true Nonpoint style of fast, grinding riffs with a unique style of vocals which has been influenced by many genres of musical talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorta like Slipknot with more talent and a better vocalist!!, February 27, 2005
This review is from: Statement (Audio CD)
Rapcore metal is not my style of music, unless it's Nonpoint! There is so much raw emotion and talent throughout the whole of the album that u can't help but love it. I'm sorry to any Slipknot fans reading this but I just don't get why people love them so. They are good but not as great as some may lead u to believe. It's offical though, Nonpoint has now made Rapcore not only listniable, but cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best New Metal releases of 2000, May 3, 2001
This review is from: Statement (Audio CD)
Nonpoint literally came out of nowhere and made a name for theirselves with this impressive debut album. This is ultimatly one of the best metal releases of 2000. The music is just so intense and the vocals are melodic and aggressive. The guitar playing on this record is fantastic. Andy Goldman's riffs are crunchy, grooving, and heavy as hell, reminiscent of Machine Head, Sevendust, and System of a Down, yet remaining very unique sounding. The drum and bass work is what really give the music its intense vibe. Robb Rivera is a hard hitting drummer that knows how to push a song to the next level. And KB's bass lines flow along through each track. The most surprising aspect of Nonpoint's debut is Elias Sorano's suprisingly top notch vocal skills. His melodic lines are beautiful and his intense furious vocal style sends chills down your spine. Every song brings a new layer of sound to the table and once your through with all 12 tracks...you will have just been blown away by the most underlooked new band of 2000 - 2001. Trust me, Nonpoint doesnt sound like any of their peers, and talent wise...they are head and shoulders above them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tastes Like Chicken! (That's Good), February 7, 2001
This review is from: Statement (Audio CD)
I listen to this CD whenever I hop into my car and I always find myself singing along to tracks 1 & 3 & 11 & 12. I'd have to say that those are the highpoints of the album. Track 5 is also pretty good but I get tired of songs quickly and, for the first week than I owned the CD, all i did was listen to track 5. I think the only lame song on this is track 8. Sorry I never give names of the tracks when I review stuff but I never really learn the names of any songs. ANYWAY, these guys don't really sound like anyone especially however, it sounds like they may have been influenced by the Late, Great, SNOT. Nonpoint does not fall into the same category as bands like Linkin Park or any other Nu-Metal band like that. Nonpoint is above & beyond that and I'd have to say that this album is really good and I would have to recomend these guys to anyone that likes hardhitting music with a slight hiphop edge to it. (just listen to track 12... it's a pretty good Rap Medley thing)

5.0 out of 5 stars Proof not all nu-metal has to suck, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Statement (Audio CD)
In 2000, two Rage Against the Machine influenced nu-metal/rapcore bands formed: California's Papa Roach and Florida's. Both of these bands were well above the rest of the nu-metal pack, but only Papa Roach broke through to the mainstream (with the hit single "Last Resort"). It may be because they were overshadowed by bands like Papa Roach, or it may be because nu-metal would die off in a couple years, but Nonpoint have always been a very underrated and overlooked band (they've never quite gotten the credit they deserve). They have most of the qualities of a typical nu-metal band; but (thanks to frontman Elias Soriano's energetic, Zach de la Rocha-esque vocals and the guitarist's fiery riffs) Nonpoint's music captures an excitement that most bands lacked. Plus, on some songs (like "Levels"), Elias proves that he can actually sing. After the crunchy and intense album opener, "Mindtrip," Nonpoint's debut album, "Statement," continues with "Victim," which has some great, very catchy, headbanging riffs. The next two tracks have fiery, throbbing guitars. "What A Day" is the album's single, so it's a high point of the album, as is the memorable seventh track, "DoubleStakked," which features an irresistible sing-to-scream chorus. The last three highlights are "Orgullo" (which is sung entirely in Elias' native tongue, Spanish), the very heavy and explosive thrasher "Hive," and the album closing twelfth track ("Tribute," which is a full-fledged hip-hop song with wah-wah sound effects and a cameo by rapper Method Man). So, "Statement" is a very promising, good, and underrated debut which showed the world that not all nu-metal/rapcore has to be generic, hookless, uninspired, misogynist tripe. Nonpoint are a great young group which is more than worthy of being checked out by fans of bands like Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, and 311.

4.0 out of 5 stars A step away from "nu-metal", and in the direction of talent., January 29, 2005
This review is from: Statement (Audio CD)
I've been a nonpoint fan for years, and by chance I stumbled upon this site, and read some of the user reviews. Most leaned towards the harsh side, which I found to be disappointing. I hate to hear them being piled into the nu-metal classification, as they transcend that genre with class and a keen sense of melody. So, they threw out a medley of hip-hop covers at the end of their album....does that make them any less respectable? I think not. Not every band in the world is solely influenced by led zepplin or Black Sabbath. Consider it a tribute, as it is titled. Beyond that, this is an impressive first effort by a young band who managed to get their business in order. One review I read was rather harsh, and I say this from a musician's perspective. Fans tend to disregard the hard work and endless time it takes to put together an album, let alone one as good as this. It may be admittedly raw, but the pure talent does manage to shine through and in the end, the rawness adds to the whole element. And if you've followed nonpoint for any time, you'd testify to the fact that they're one of the hardest working bands around, often touring 3/4 of a year to support any one of their albums. And with their next 2 albums they have matured into an excellently melodic metal outfit in every facet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, August 8, 2004

Excellent all the way, like all of their other albums. At first I saw their music video of 'Endure', and I thought it was awesome. Then I decided to buy 'Statement', but I was afraid it wouldn't rock as a whole. I was so wrong. These guys can do it all from harsh nu-metal to the more melodic rock tunes. Andy Goldman is definitely one of the greatest guitarists out there, and Elias Soriano's (vocals) voice is truly amazing. Usually singers have a limited voice for doing only one kind of music. Well, I think that Elias has this sort of unlimited voice, as he can sing just about any kind of rock/rap/metal music.

Statement is one of my favorite albums of all time... Go buy it, you will not be disappointed. Most probably you will go all nuts in your room for the enjoyment.
