Editorial Reviews

Review

"Palgrave Macmillan's The Statesman's Yearbook, which LJ named one of the top 50 reference sources of the millennium, was just released in its 143rd edition. Originally designed for statesmen but now used by anyone needing information on the politics, cultures, and economies of the world, this yearbook is one of the longest-running annual publications in history. [T]he 2007 edition contains more than 20 percent new material, increasing its scope to 1.5 million words. A standout feature is the foldout section providing a political world map and flags for 192 countries. There are also biographical profiles of current leaders, government histories, and various historical statistics, as well as new and original essays on topical issues in international affairs."--Library Journal

"The newest version of The Statesman's Yearbook...is the same high-quality, easy-to-use resource in a bigger package. Boasting new 2007 content, such as biographical profiles of current world leaders, expanded political histories and economic overviews, and essays on globalization and military expenditures, it dwarfs older editions in size." -- M. Shores, CHOICE

"The Statesman's Yearbook is the most convenient and reliable starting point for information on international affairs. Its coverage is unparalleled for a one-volume resource, and it has never yet let me down."--US Senator George J. Mitchell

"One of the top 20 best reference sources of the millennium."--Library Journal

"The SYB remains an indispensable paper resource for reference librarians and others in need of quick, basic, accurate information."--American Reference Books Annual

"All you need to know about the population of various states and countries, officials, exports, constitutions, governments, diplomatic representatives, religion, finance, and basic histories."--The New York Times

'On the desert island of the imagination this title should certainly be up there with the Bible and Shakespeare.' - Parliamentary Maritime Review

'A classic reference work.' - Reference Reviews

'Perfect Companion.' - The Times

'You need more than one of everything because no information is value-free - except perhaps in [Palgrave's] annual The Statesman's Yearbook ... a masterpiece of pure quantification.' - Daily Telegraph (Victoria Glendinning's choice of Top Reference Book)

'The book should be in every office which is concerned with world trade and, indeed, in every school which produces the future traders. It is an essential tool of all global thinking.' - Geographical Magazine

'This venerable reference work remains as indispensable as ever before...the information contained in this one volume is prodigious and if a researcher could only have one volume to hand, this would be it.' - Contemporary Review

'In a volatile political world, this annual publication brings a sane voice to its presentation of the vital information every diplomat needs. And all in one volume. An essential purchase.' - London Diplomat
