4.0 out of 5 stars I've got a "Super Good Feeling" about this one!, July 17, 1999

This CD is great. Simply said. No other adjectives. Bleach is my favorite Christian group and although I think I have to give more props to the first album, I DO want to applaud the efforts of following up with such a smashing secondary! As a DJ for a year in college, Bleach caught my interest in Christian alternative bands, and I am asking everyone to try this album out before labeling Bleach as "blech."

4.0 out of 5 stars ...Static shows off an older, more mature Bleach., March 2, 2003

With the band's sophmore release, Static shows off an older, more mature Bleach. In two years, the band has refined their style to a more mainstream sound. The vocals are cleaner, but still have the distinct Bleach quality. The guys are a bit older, more experienced, and girlfriends thanked in the previous album cover are now thanked as wives (congrats, Dave!).

Each track on the album seems to be striving for radio hit status. While the album succeeds in this endeavor, with four of the songs reaching in the top ten singles list, I can't help but feel that the album is a transition, a work in progress as the band experiments with who they are and what they're out to do. I miss the dirtier sound of the band's previous release, Space, but the album still has a lot to offer.

The title track introduces the listener to the new sound, a fun, guitar driven hit about clinging to God like static. Having enjoyed much radio success, Super Good Feeling sums up the listening experience of the album while looking at a relationship with Christ. The balled Rundown Town shows the depth and width of the band in its story of one persevering to the end. Land Of The Lost picks the pace up again, in a poppy, pick-me-up about touching the strange and crazy people of the world. I think that's about all of us.

You get carried away in the short, hard and heavy guitar rock track about the whirlwind of sin in Hurricane. Things get poppy again in the electronics laden Warp Factor Five. The track Rock N Roll is just that, and is a good summation of the album. The CDs second balled, Code Of The Road, brings me back to my barefoot San Diego days in my '69 VW Karmann Ghia. I've worn out my repeat button as I wax nostalgic over the track, thinking about my many breakdowns along the side of the road, the many people who helped me out, and the many times I returned the favor. Any low budget touring band or youth group in the typical `church van' can also relate.

The beat stay up through the rest of the album with Lonestar, Drive, and Country Western Star and finishes with the introspective finish Waving Goodbye. All in all, an excellent offering for those looking for some great mainstream guitar pop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very., very nice., May 14, 1999

Some people have said this CD is bland. But, Bleach is a band that is really solid musically and grows on you as you listen to them. Their songs are very well done and solid. I especially love the mellow Waving Goodbye. Mainly because of the awesome message it has. Also Hurricane and Warp Factor Five are good upbeat, hyper cuts. Anyone who love music should get this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gives you a super-good feeling!, December 6, 1999

This is a really cool album! Bleach rocks with songs like "Land of the Lost" "Rock and Roll" and "Static." "Super Good Feeling" has a great alternative, guitar-driven punch to it. The album is full of great tunes and the lyrics are right on. Rock and Roll for the Common Man...

4.0 out of 5 stars good well rounded album, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Static (Audio CD)
I really like it especially the odd sounding (at times) rundown town. I can see how it could sound monotone or bland or boring or what ever that some raving reviewer says it sounded like when I'm in a harder mood for stuff like Circle of Dust or whatever. I do believe they did a great job at making a well rounded clean sounding album, extra commendation for staying away from the ever so popular lately "horns" that discolor music so sadly. Thanks Bleach for keeping a clean, alternative/pop sound, none of those sour horns. I give it a 4, I love it but I'm reserving 5 for the day they come out with a chart topper
