Book Description

November 27, 1992 0521404355 978-0521404358
This book outlines the basic science underlying the prediction of stress and velocity distributions in granular materials. The nature of a rigid-plastic material is discussed and a comparison is made between the Coulomb and conical (extended Von Mises) models. The methods of measuring material properties are described and an interpretation of the experimental results is considered in the context of the Critical State Theory. Exercises and solutions are provided that will be particularly useful for the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review on Prof. Nedderman`s Book, January 31, 2002
By
This review is from: Statics and Kinematics of Granular Materials (Hardcover)
The book on Statics and Kinematics of Granular materials by Prof. Nedderman is like a Bible for Powder technology researcher. It gives a complete picture of how the granular material or powder will behaves when it moves due to some external force and when it is in rest. It gives a much basic understanding on the stress - strain relationship and theory developed to understand powder mechanics.
The figures and illustrated used to explain the granular theory especially the Jenike`s method is excellent.
Overall, it is a very good book for understanding the powder mechanics and utilizing the basic concept for understanding major equipments like Storage silo, conveyors and agglomeration system.
It should be prescribed for Chemical Engineering Undergraduate course and for Postgraduate tuaght course. It also stand as a reference book for the Industrialist and Chemical Engineers. Very important book for researchers in Powder Technology.
