Top Reference Book for this Librarian, March 23, 2010
This review is from: Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2010 (Statistical Abstract of the U.S.) (Paperback)
This is my favorite reference book as a librarian. I've used it to help patrons answer countless reference questions in a variety of jobs, including as a psychology reference librarian, a newspaper librarian, and a journalism / advertising / PR librarian. Questions I have answered include: how many motorcycles are registered in the US., what kind of money is spent on advertising, in addition to questions about the population of the US. Data in the charts includes the original source of the data, so that you can track down additional data if necessary. Many charts include prior year's data, and libraries usually have prior editions so that you can obtain prior data as well. The US government makes this available online for free, but the print edition is easier to use. Highly recommended for libraries!
