3.0 out of 5 stars Too many typos, April 21, 2010

This review is from: 5 Steps to a 5 AP Statistics, 2008-2009 Edition (5 Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations Series) (Paperback)
I have taught college-level elementary statistics for years. When I began teaching AP Statistics to my daughter this year, a friend recommended this book. For me, it was a good to see the advice on how the test is graded and exactly which topics were covered on the test. However, my daughter found the book quite frustrating. Some of the problems are impossible to work because of typing mistakes in the problems. For example, one problem gave a probability as 0.3, and she worked on the problem for quite a while and could never get a final answer that wasn't impossible. In the printed answer in the book, they were using a probability of 0.03 instead of 0.3, which made all the difference. As a teacher, I can look at the problem and see the typo immediately, but for students, typing mistakes like this are a very real issue. There were also grammatical and punctuation errors that made it difficult for my daughter to read the explanations. If these issues are corrected for the 2010 edition, then I would recommend this book. As it is, for next year, I am not going to take the chance. I am going to buy the Cracking the AP Statistics Exam, 2010 Edition (College Test Preparation) and the Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2010 Edition (College Test Preparation) for my Statistics student and my Calculus student.
