From Library Journal
This compilation of statistics on the prevalence and adverse effects of substance abuse is divided into three sections?one each for alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs?but lacks organization within the sections. Each two-page spread contains one graph or table, a brief explanatory paragraph, the source, and contact information for relevant organizations. While the data originates from reputable sources, such as the National Institute of Drug Abuse, it is frequently quoted from secondary sources. The volume is well indexed, but the glossary is thin and the choice of terms seems arbitrary. Morever, the data is available for free in various government reports. Neverthess, there is no other reference work that combines all of these topics in one, easy-to-use volume; thus it may prove useful for high school or small public libraries.?Eris Weaver, Marin Inst. for the Prevention of Alcohol & Other Drug Problems, San Rafael, Cal.
